Three thousand wild hogs were seen In one drove; snakes have gone further south; to-morrow we go north along the railroad to kill deer. The section boss tells ns that deer are so numerous out that wav that we find it difficult to get through with our hand car; lie closes his epistle by requesting Joe to sell ids worldly effects and come to them at once ami do their skinning for them, as one man is inadequate to do that part of the work. '•Peter 1 loir man lias an idea that t lie foregoing items printed in these columns were tor the purpose ot discrediting his reputation, 1 will say that nothing of that kind was intended, as Mr. Hoffman's reputation is unreproaehable and is very highly recominmended in business ami social circles.” The above is taken from Hie Linn Drove correspondence to the Geneva Herald. We notice the claim that ‘■H's" rtputation had not been assailed, but actual experience has taught him to discern between a ripe sugar plum and an unripe persimmon, and does not care for the former when over ripe. However, Peter goes down deep for gratitude to the author.
