OH! WHAT A TIME. Some people enjoy Decatur. Anyhow “Doc” Karns, “Lundy” Gutelius, ‘Barley” Mosure and “Jake” Redding drove over to that antiquated mud hole, and spent Sunday. They report a good time, etc., etc.—Evening News, Bluffton, April 17. Probably the editor of the News imagined that Decatur is muddy by the looks of the above Gents when they returned. We venture the assertion that our Sunday guqgt JMver saw mud at long range. Only when some aggressive ditch would bob up and strike them in the face, could mud be brought within range of their vision. Too much of “Paddy’s eye-water” will cause anyone to enjoy themself. He looses all sense of propriety, self-respect, and his blunt and dull senses do not allow him to realize his misery. Our mud is a credit to Bluffton cheek and audacity, but the dull and uncultivated are pardonable in a measure,-as what they lack is some* times due to want of capacity. “All jokes are free in harvest” is an old saying, but to spring one at this season of the year would be a little pre mature were it not that our friend John King, was made the victim of reality instead of a joke. Some time ago John contracted with a certain, party in the country for Jersey butterfat 16 cents per pound, which price should govern the year round for the quantity he used in his family. The butter was delivered according to contract for several months during the summer season,—the market price for butter being 9 cents per pound during that time—but when the price advanced to 16 cents and above, John failed to get any more Jersey butter. He protested against having his Jersey butter contract cancelled, but when informed that the Jersey cows had gone dry, John contented himself by getting his butter elsewhere. It now turns out that the party whom John was to receive his Jersey butter from had never been the owner of any such animals, but that the Jersey butter he had been paying 16 cents a pound for, was bought at a country store at low prices, until the 16 cents was reached, when a halt to further trafilcing in Jersey butter was called. When John turns to farming on his Wells county plantation, the above experience will serve him well as a reminder “that all trades have their tricks!” .
