The author of the bill in bur present Legislature restricting drug stores to county and corporation license as are saloons, should step back thirty feet and take a view of the hydraheaded monster of his begetting, and in case he should fail to see it in its true color, he then should cast his judgment on the balance and calculate its worth at two pence per pound. Our fleet-footed Billy takes another run and was stimulated to action by the re ceipt of a note from his best girl, just as his day’s work was closed, the note is said to read this wise: ‘‘Come at your earliest, my dearest, as I may not live long.” A hasty excuse was tendered to the lady of the house that he could not possibly stay for supper which was then in waiting. After wishing from the depth of his soul that he could take passage to town on board of a runaway team. He started on his mission of humanity and made his three-quarter of a mile in a very short space of time, landing in the presence of his dulcina wheezing and gasping for breath, exclaiming, “what is the matter with you, my darling?” O, nothing, I just wanted to see you, that was all. Billy avowed that he surely thought that the matter was serious, as he knew she was at quilting and he thought perhaps she had swallowed a needle. ( Ekitor Democrat;— Since there are a good many Indianians among the “consumptive colon” at this place, jt may be of interest to the readers of the Democrat to learn that our invalids are getting along nicely and the experience of every one of them bears testimony to the fact that a residence in the light and dry air of this region will certainly cure those who are in the earlier stages of consumption,—and so far as is known at present, climate is the only cure for this terrikle malady, in any stage. It used to be supposed that any climate that was “mild” would be good for the consumptives, and for that resson our doctors wonld send their patients to Florida and Southern California, especially in winter, but experience has very thoroughly exploded the “mild” theory, and every well-informed physician now admits that dryness of the atmosphere is the important consideration. The climate of New Mexico is mild and agreeable, and the air almost totally devoid of moisture; as a result consumptives who come here before the disease has made much progress, almost invariable get well. W. S. Burke. Let us hear from you again.—(Ed. • Thomas Baughman Shot And Dangerously Wounded- - % Thomas Baughman, a former resident of this county, where he was born some thirty years ago, was shot and very dangerously wounded on Friday night of last week, near the town of Osgood, Darke county, Ohio. A neighbor of Baughman’s had been to town and on his way home stopped at Baughman’s and took supper. In the course of their conversation a trade was made wherein Baughman was to give the neighbor a shot-gun and seven dollars for a cow. The neighbor, who had been imbibing while in town, had with him a pint of whiskey, which he proffered Baughman, who declined taking any. The neighbor requested Baughman to go along then and get his cow, which he did, although saying to the neighbor that he preferred waiting till morning. When they arrived at the neighbor’s house the bottle was again brought forth and placed on the table. While Baughman and the neighbor were out getting the cow, the good wife took the bottle from the table ajad concealed it. Baughman started home with the cow andihe neighbor went to the honse. On entering the house Re discovered the bottle was gone ancffcefcused Baughman stealing it. His wife told him that he had not, but this did not satisfy him. Picking up the shot-gun he started in pursuit of Baughman, and overtaking him demanded his bottle of whiskey, Baughman denied having the bottle whereupon the neighbor pointed the gun to within a foot of his head and was about to discharge it, when Baughman grabbed the barrel to push it aside, but in doing so it was discharged, contents, about thirty shot, penetrating his left side, near the heart. This happened about 11 p. m. and it was nearly two o'clock following when he was discovered by his hired hand in a helpless condition and taken home. The murderer went home and hitching up his horse to a sleigh, departed for parts unknown.
Deserving Praise. We desire to say to our citizens, that for years we have been selling Dr. King’s New Discovery for Consumption Dr. King’s New Life Pills, Bucklen’s Arnica Salve and Electric Bitters, and have never handled remedies that sell as well, or that have given such universal satisfaction. We do not hesitate to guarantee them every time, and we stand ready to refund the price if satisfactory results do not follow their use. These remedies have won their great popularity purely on their merits. A. R. Pierce’s drug store. Decatur Produce Current. COUNTRY' PRODUCE.
