It The laws of health are taught in the schools, but not in away to be of much practical benefit and are never illustrated by living examples, which in many cases might easily be done. If some scholar, who had just contracted a cold, was brought before the school, so that all could hear the dry, loud cough and know its significance, see the thin white coating on the longue and later, as the cold developed, see the profuse watery expectoration and thin watery discharge from the nose, not one of them would ever forget what the fust symptoms of a cold were. The scholar should then be given Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy freely, that all might see that even a severe cold could be owed in oneortwo days, or at least greatly mitigated, when properly treated as soon as the first symptoms appear. This remedy is famous for it's cures of couhs, cold and croup. It is made especially for these diseases and is the most prompt and most reliable medicine known for the purpose. 50 cent bottles for sale by W. 11, Nachtrieb. , d

Railroad Blackboards. The Indiana Supreme Court yesterday r * 1 handed down its decision in the railroad j blackboard case. The opinion was an ex 1 - haustive one by Judge Olds, and was i against the railroads. ! The last legislature passed an act com- ' - pelting the railroads of the stats to put up 1 i a blackboard at each station on which the ' time of the arrival and departure of trains [ should be announced. Jn many counties ' i the railroads did not comply with the law ' Prosecuting attorneys over the state wil; I ’ now be entitled to fees amounting in the , - aggregate to hundreds of thousands of J dollars. A penalty of slo for each train 1 that passes by a station, the time of the , passage of which is not posted on the - i blackboard, is provided in the statute. To ' - place these blackboards will cost the raili roads, the agents ot the latter say, over [ $1,000,000. j A test case was made of a suit against i the Indiana and Illinois- Southern rail- , road. The case came up from Greene county. The court held that the boards were merely a public convenience, and ' that they did not interfere with commerce. While they would in the aggregate cost much money, the cost of putting them up and operating them would, with a few 1 exceptions, be. inexpensive. The court below held the'law constitutional. This, opinion the supreme court overrules. In ali, three cases were handed down, all relating to the sama act. There were opinions by four justices, all reaching the same conclusion as those arrived at in the Greene county rase. Ripans Tabules: for sour stomach, Decatur has some of the host sites for an Opera House at present that it has had for several years. We do not entertain a doubt but that a good opera house would be welcomed by the cit'zens of De catur and we believe that our city is large . enough to justify any one in in-vesting their dollars in a building of this kind. The site east of House, owned by the Vogelwede estate and Willard Steele is a serygood location. No better place can be found tha 1 the Klophock estate, on Third and Madison streets. Who would be better suited to erect a building of this kind than Peter Forbing & Co? . Nine thousand dollars being volunteered will make a very good start. If these people should fail to avail themselves of the opportunity of doing something of this who could better meet the emergency with an elegant "building on Monroe pstreet; than. Dr. D. G. M. Trout.
