A Serious Runaway. lOn last Friday afternoon a serious, although not fatal runaway occurred on Second street. While Robert Smith, wife and infant child, and James Hughes and Miller Smith were driving down the street, the back seat of the buggy gave way, throwing Hughs and Miller Smith into the street. Robert Smith also fell carrying the lines with him. The horses becoming frightened rushed up the street. Mrs. Smith clutching her child in her arms sprang from the wagon, just as' the horses were opposite the residence of Mrs. C hamper. The horses ran up Second street, turned west on Adams street and again on Third street, coming back to the place where they started. No one was hurt except Mrs. Smith, when she jumped from the 'wagon, struck her head on a stone, thereby causing a severe concussion of the tir.i S’ t I'e i Mr* Cha np<: ’s i\>-i.l’i” eviD . Save Money and Suffering. One feature of the thousands of testimonials that have been given in behalf of S. S. S. is remarkable. In numbers of instances it is related that a great deal ot time and money have been spent in a vain effort to secure relief from disease in the usual way. A knowledge of the virtues of Swift’s Specific would have saved the time and the money, to say nothing of the prevention of the suffering. There need be no such mistakes made now. The great blood purifier is for sale by druggists everywhere, and the S. S. S. company in Atlanta will send to any address their treatise on blood and skin diseases free, and a pamphlet containing a few-of the thousands ot testimonials they have re ceived from those who have experienced the benefits of this wonderful medicine. There is also other ousiness of importance to be attended to. .*** ALCOHOL IN HEALTH AND DISEASE. iue fact stands out in strong relief which no one will question, that the habitual use of anything containing alcohol as a beverage, even to a so-caileu moderate extent, puts a in a position in which the peril from an attack of pneumonia or other acute affections of the langs is largely increased. Nothing is more discouraging to the physician tuan to come to the bedside of a patient in whom he recognizes a case of this kind, and to find that he has to deal with a system whose vital resistance has broken down by the poisonous influences of alcohol. Such a case is doomed, as a rule, from the first. Measures that usually give relief fail entirely in the presence of this condition, and even under the most skillful treatment the percentage of recoveries are small indeed. In fact, we may c insider it a maxim that in proportion as alcohol is used in health, it becomes useless in disease, and not only so, but it impairs the usefulness of other remedies. Thus while I hold that alcohol, like morphine, has its place in diseasei I contend that like morphine, it has absolutely nc place in health. People who know me, know how I have suffered with it, and that I have tried many different medicines without relief. I can truthfully say that Hibbard’s Rheumatic Syrup and Plasters have effected wonders in my case, and I recommend them for kidney and liver trouble as well as rheumatism. The holding of the World’s Fair in a city scarcely fifty years old will be a remarkable event, but whether it will really benefit this nation as much as the discovery of the Restorative Nervine by Dr. Franklin Miles is doubtful. This is just what the American people need to cure their excessive nervousness, dyspepsia, headache, dizziness, sleeplessness, neural gia, nervous debility, dullness, confusion of mind, etc. It acts like a charm.
