Now that the cnntract with the Sun Vapor Street Light Co. is about to ex pire, the city council should be looking for some better way to light our streets. There is, of course, only one way to do i' properly, and that is with electricity. We have as good electric light plant here as there is in any city of this size in the state That Mr. Edwards, the manager, is enter prising and can do the work, no one doubts in the least. Other cities are lighted in this manner and are well pleased and this city should be lighted the saifiej way. The lamps that are now in use ar> good but not up<to the times in a city like ours, when everything is moving forward. We can getelectric as cheap, that will gvie better satisfaction and there is no reason why we should not have them. Startling Facts. The American people are rapidly be coming a race of nervous wrecks, and the following suggests the best remedy: Al phonso Hempfling, of Butler, Pa., swears that when his son was speechless from St. ? r Vitus dance Dr. Miles great Restorative Nervine cured him. Mrs. J. R. Miller, oi Valparaiso and J. D. Taylor, ot Logansport, Ind., each gained twenty pounds from taking it. Mrs. H. A. Gardner, of yistula, Ind., was cured of forty to fiftj convulsions a day, and much headache, dizzinesff, backache and nervous prostration by one Wtjg. Trial bottles and fine book of marvelous Curps, free at W. II Nachtrieb’s, who recommends and guar antees this unequaled remedy. Advise to Young Men. The world is older than you by several years; for thousands of years it has been full of better smarter young men than yourself: when th*y tjjed the globe went whirling on and notone in a hundred million went to the funeral or beard of their death. Be as smart as you can of course: know as much as you can. Shed the light of your wisdom abroad to the world, but don’t try to dazzle or astonish anybody with it, and don’t imagine a thing is pimple because you think it is. .Don’t be sorry tor your father because he knows so much less than you do. He use to think he was much smarter than his father, mi you think you are smarter , than yours. The word has great need of young men, but have no greater need than young men have of the world. Your clothes fit better than your father’s fit hirn; they cost more money: they are more stylish. Jle used to be as straight and nimble as you are. He, too, perhaps thought his father was old-fashioned. Your mustache is neater, the cut of your hair is better, and you are prettier, far prettier, than “pa.” But, young man, the old gentleman’s homely scrambling signature on a check will draw more money out of the bank in five minutes than you could get out with a ream of paper and a copper-plate signature in six months. Young men are useful and they are ornamental, and we all love them, and we could not get up a picnic successfully without them. But they are no novelty; they have been here before. Every generation has a full supply of them, and will have to the end of time: each crop will think themselves quite ahead of the last, and will live to be called old fogies by their sons. Go ahead. Have yonr day. Y our sons will by and by pity you for your oldfashioned way. Don’t be afraid your merit will hot be discovered. People all over the world are looking for you, and if you are worth finding they will be sure to find you. A diamond is not so easily found as tt quartz pebble, but people search for it all the more intently. Throws it Oft. ' There is no disease more disagreeable and uncomfortable than catarrh. It at-, tacks the young ahd the old, and it is too often allowed to take its course. In such cases it frequently becomes dangerous. The poison extends to the throat and lungs, resulting in complications that are not readily overcome. All forms of catarrh, however, disappear before S. S. S., and that medicine is now recognized as an almost infallible remedy for the disease. It regulates the liver, improves the digestion, and brings about conditions that en able the system to throw off the malady. < Catarrh and its attendant aggravations disappear before S. S. S., and so do all otlvr diseases f hit grow out of a bad Hyer and impure blood. Children Cry for p,toher ’’ Castorla.

Kicked by a Horse. -— On last Saturday afternoon while ‘■Peck’' Champer was leading a horse for Besry & Fisher, the animal became playful and jumping in front of "Peck” kicked, striking him till I in the face, knocking him down and breaking his nose. “Peck* became unconscious and was carried into the resicence of Clark J. Lutz, and Dr. Boyers was called. Reports* went Jhe rounds that “Peck” would die, but after an examination Dr. Boyers informed us that the wounds were not dangerous. The Dr. put several stitches in “Peck’s” nose and after placing bandages over his eyes he was conveyed to his home. “From the fullness of the heart the mouth speaketh,” hence fair and high- minded people evrywhere delight in speaking the praise of those who, or the things which, are essentially good. Out ot several hundred written testimonials to the worth and merits of the Americanized Encyclopaedia Britannica there is only room for a limited number.
Lyman J. Gage, President Worlds Columbian Exposition. And vice President of the First National Bank, says: “The movement inagurated to supply the people with the Americanized Encyclopaedia Britannica is a marked indication of an advance in the intlectual taste of the community. Under the easy conditions of purchase of the work it ought to be in every library, however humble.” From The Chicago Herald. “The Americanized Encyclopaedia Britannica is a magnificent and valuable possession for every household. It presents for the first time a a camplete reference library at a price and on terras within reach of every family.” From The St. Louis Republic. “The Americanized Encyclopaedia Britannica is not the Encyclopaedia Britannica injits old form, but the Encyclopaedia "Britannica Americanized as to make it a thousand-fold more valuable to American readers than the Englsh edition.” This great work may be obtained for s3o.db, including one year’s subscription to THE DECATUR DEMOCRAT as follows: The ten volumes will be delivered on payment of $5.00 and then $2.50 each month thereafter until the full amount is paid.
