Gasser is constructing a new sidewalk along hi| premises on Main street which adds quite materially to that part of town. Sand and rock are being delivered lor the new block which is to be erected on Main street, opposite D. S. Wittwer’s tin shop. Welty Bro’s, sold their corner lot where their business room now stands. Consideration $1,300. They will move their room one square north on their vacant let in the future. Sprunger, Gerber & Co., shipped another car load of very fine horses to Boston last week. C. C. Yoder accompanied the load to their destination and will probably remain there a week or two. John Saurer contemplates moving in his residence on Main street next week. The house was recently vacated by H. Harruff. Mr. S. will have the house and* barn repainted before moving which will be quite an improvement. Mrs. Houser, of Columbia City, who has b en visiting relatives and friends at ihi - place ti e past three weeks, returned h. me last Tuesday. .Mts. Brown accompanied her where she will visit friends ami relatives a few xfteks. A run'.way team of horses attached to a wagon on last Wednesday ca,used quite an excitement. They came near running through the front glass of Sprunger, Gerber iSr Co.’s meat market on Main street. A. Marker also had a narrow escape. Mrs. T. G. Hopkins, who just recently opened a new millinery shop in Brennaman’s block, on corner Main and Bearing streets, is Raving an extraordinary good t r ade, much better than was expected, an i trade is still increasing. Mr. H. will be in town every-Saturday at his office at J. F. Lachot & Co's drug store to attend to any legal -business, also on the 4th of every 3rd month for to transact business for the soldiers, and on the 251 h of every month to attend to the business of the .Big Four Bud ing Loan association Mr. Harruff being secret try of said association. Linn Grove Items. Jacob North and wife, of Bluffton, were the guests of P. Huffman and family on ast Sabbath. D. Forrest Hoffman was at Geneva last Saturday. Calphine Schaupp left here on Monday for the northeastern part of Kansas. Workmen are building the foundation for a large bank barn for David Runyon. P. Hoffman, Gep. W. Gentis and Emil Lichty were at. Decatur on business last Monday and Tuesday. L. L. Dunbar got a lay off this week from the petit jury which meets his secret approval. Quite a number from here were invited to make a bow to the grand jury last week for rehearsal. Emanuel Reffee and Smith Runyon have the contract for constructing the drain for the basement ot the school building and are now doing the work. Peter Baumgartner is building some porches and plastering the upper story of the house he purchased of W. G. Hill, which he will follow with a coat of paint on the outside, which will add much to the appearance of his domicile. A couple of feather ‘renovating men struck our town last week, and inasmuch as our people had their eye teeth cut heretofore, they were not encouraged in the enterprise, therefore they are looking elsewhere for victims. George Lee, of. Monroe Items. i The farmers are very busy now. Where is the man that would object to a pike if Decatur wants to be somebody, let her get out of the mud. We advise our people who go to Decatur, and want a square meal and a social chat, to go to the Miesse House, and you will be well pjeased with the accommodations. Sickness is somewhat abating pn and around Monroe, consequently the doctors are making garden and doing other little chores. Notice is hereby given to the public generally that on every Tuesday -night the Monroe brass band will meet at the hall at the ringihg of the bell. Last Sunday Rev. Foster delivered another one of his eloquent sermons to the Monroe people at the M. E. church. The Rev. makes his discourses rather lengthy, for some of his hearers, a few was seen nodding and almost in deep slumber, during service, with their mouths open unconscious of what might craw' down their throats. Tom Gilbert aroused his neighbors on Thursday morning of last week by his unmerciful hollowing, laughing and singular gestures, causing consternation among his friends. He was brandishing a tomahawk, yelling “We are prepared for any emergency,” creating great alarm until somebody overpowered him and made inquiry as to the excitement, Tom replied, “Oh, its a boy, and big enough to lick Italy.” Bobo Items. Everything booming at Bobo at present. Hands are working at the M. E. parsonage this week. The F. M. B. A. organized a lodge at Bobo last Saturday night. * Miss Rosa| Brothers was visiting her parents over Sunday. G. W. Mclntosh, of Ft. Wayne, is visiting here this week. Alex Bunner is in DeKalb county, visiting friends and relatives. A. J. Hawkins, went to Mercer county, Ohio, to work this week. One of the grand jurors was looking around Rivare last Monday on business we suppose. Look out people, sympathy will not always last, some one will get the full benefit of the law yet. Singing school at Rivare next Sunday evening. Come out ever} body. Farmers are all busy sowing oats at present. Henry Colter is looking for his new saw mill on this week. Go to P. F. City of Decatur, ss; To the Marshal of the City of Decatur, greeting: You are hereby notified that a city election will be held at the following voting places in the City of Decatur, county of Adams, and State of Indiana, to-wit: First Ward, in the office of the Decatur Stave Works, situated on the northeast corner of 6utlot number forty (40) in the town (now city) of Decatur. Second Ward, in the office of the livery barn of A. R. Bell, situated on in-ot No. 94. Third Ward, in the building situated on inlot No. 263, occupied by H. M. Romberg as an office for a livery stable. Said election to be held on Tuesday, May 5, 1891, The same being the first Tuesday of May, 1891, +or the purpose of electing the following officers, to-wit: One Mayor for said city. There having been a proposition made to the the Common Council of the city of Decatur to grant to persons not residents of said city a franchise to build water works in said city, and your Council having thoroughly investigated thequestion have come to the conclusion that if such works are built it would be cheaper for the city to build and own its own works and believe the same can be built at a cost not exceeding $23,000, and not feeling like undertaking a work of that magnitude without an expression of an opinion from the people, therefore be it Resolved, By the Common Council, of the city of Decatur, that the question ol building water works for said city be submitted to a vote of the voters of said city at the muncipal election to be held in said city on the Sth day of May, 1891. Be it further Resolved. That the City Clerk be and he is hereby ordered to have printed at the bottom of each municipal ballot the words, “For Water Works," “Against Water Works,” so’that each voter may vote his opinion on said subject, and Uiat the clerk be ordered to have the said wordsjpublished on,and as a part of the municipal ticket, when the same is published in accordance with the requirements of the election law.
