Office in Democrat Building, cast side of See end Street—ground tioor. A Prohibitionist’s Objection to the Women’s Suffrage 4 Plank. Woman was a slave in the past, except in favored lo alitiis and at rare intervals and was relegated to the realm ol ignorance and servitude, that, is one of the reasons why Jcsi s said: “The spirit o the I.ord is up tn me, because he hath anointed me to preach pond tidings to the poor, he hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” One of the important things in the missions of Jesus Christ, was to elevate wpmen to the place they ought to occupy, and when we turn to the tYpes and'shadows ol ChrisJ and his kingdom, w e there see the position women should occupy in the church. Some would tell us that llulda and Deborah’s position typified the position they shor.l 1 occupy in literal things, but I denv ,it; because Jesus says: “ Search the scripture’-, tor in them ye think ve have ct< r .a! life nnd they are they that testily of me." Yes. thank God, the old Bible, for that is what he meant when he said. “Scfip’ur.e testifyers ot Christ and bis kingdom which is spiritual and not literal," These truths are verified at the circumcision of Jesus at Jerusalem, because Anna was endowed with power from on high. She was th first Evangelist and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jcru Salem. At the well of Samaria Jesus met a poor, degraded woman, and to her mv’e the first disclosure of Himself as the Mes siah, I that spike unto thee am He. D was forbidden to a rabbi to speak to a woman in public, or 10 take notice of her, and his deciples marveled that he ta’ked with one, but as at other times Jesus treated with contempt all the practices which had tor their end the exaltation of one sex by humbling the other. It was given to women to preach the first resur rection sermon on the day of Penticost God fulfilled his promise, “on my servants and on mv handmaidens will I pour out of my spirit and they shall prophesy, as the four daughters of Phi'lip prophesied Paul’s definition of prophesying shows that all these women preached the gospel. He that prophesieth speaketh unto men for edification and exortation and com fort, nb preacher does more than that Aquila and his wife, Priscilla, had a churcb in their house, Phctbe was a deaconess o' the church in Cenchrea, and the one that carried Paul’s letter to Rome. In this let ter the apostle speaks of Trvphena and Tfyphosa, who labor in the Lord, and other women are mentioned who were prominent in the church. He said to the Philipians help those women who labired with me in the gospel. Now then, for fear the teaching of Christ and his own might be misunderstood, to settle the question beyond dispute, Paul says: “There is neither male nor femalesJor ye are all one in Christ Jesus" Now we have very clearly shown that in Christ’s kingdom which he established on earth, women nave an equal Huht with men, but we find Paul the apostiX, saying: •T.et vour women keep silence no the churches, for it is not permitted unto them to but they are commanded to blunder obedience as also smith the law.” Here would seem to he a contradiction if we did not .recognize the fact that there is a Divine side and a human side to ih-* scripture, this is plainly shown bv His re ferring us to the 3rd and ifi'li of- Gen esis, ‘ and thy-di sire shall be to thy husbind and he shall rule river thee.” In th eight places where Paul speaks against women he bases his authority on the word of God, recorded in the end ami ib‘h ol Gcsftesis, in o’-edienee to the above command, of God and referring to the li’eral . things of life and no* to the spiritu I kingdom.,_P iul ‘says, the husband is tl> ■ head o the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, but for fear lie might be misunderstood, and women trampled under foot as in former days, he say “Husbands love vour wives, even as Christ loved the church." Just Why God said t<: the women in sorrow, “Thou shalt bring forth children and thy husband shall-ru'e over thee,” or t > the man, “in the s« e it 11 thv face shah thoi’: eat bread," is not revealed. but it is the positive command ol God, and man had better not trample on God’s commands. The Women’s Suffrage plank in the Prohibition platform is drii ing men from the party and will c -ntinu to do so John Ei.zi.v Rheumatism Can be Cured. Although it has baffled our best physi cians, it can be permanently cured by the proper use of Hibbard’s Rheumatic Syrup which cleanses the blood of all poisonom matter and induces a healthy action 01 the kidneys and liver.
