W. Miesse. The latest advancement that the tonsoriol artist has made for the comfort and convenience of his patrons is to do away with soap for preparing the chin and softning the beard. Oil or grease is now used instead. Vaseline is the most convenient, and it should be rubbed on freely Then with a keen razor shaving can be done quickly a, ’d without suspicion of pain. At first one can scarcely reconcile himself to doing without the orthodox lather, but soap is realy unnecessary, and shaving with oil or vasaline is cleaner, as well as pleasanter, and, what is more to the point, there is no irritation whatever to the skin. \ Within the past few days many people have been heard to ask when “Indian summer” occurs and the orgin ot it* name. Indian summer is not one of the seasons fixed by the almanac. It is one ot the “movable feasts” that varies in the time of its coming, according to the year and its conditions, It does not come in September as some believe. Sometimes it is late in October, but usually comes in November. It comes often after a wintry overture as an interlude between the first and later snows, and it is marked by a smoky appearance. It was called “Indian summer” by the early white settlers of this country heeau-e oi the appearance which was supposed to be occas ; oned by the fore»t fires ot the savages. The National democrat which was established in Washington one year ago by Edmund Hudson, wi'h the indorsement of many of the great leaders of the party, has entered upon its second year with a circulation of 40,000 copies each week, Thi* is perhaps the largest circulation ever attained by a weekly newspaper during the first year of its existence. The National Dr woe rat occupies a field of its own and one that too long remained unfilled. It gives a complete record of political information, including the most important speeches that are on the stump. It is rendering the party important service and should be read by all who wish to keep fully informed in regard to public affairs and who mean to defeat the wicked scheme oi the Republican leaders to »e---cure permanent control of the Government, in spite of the fact that they afe, and must remain, the minority party in thi* country.

Sylvester King. Decatur. Indiana. Nov. 7. 1890, Children Cry for Pitcher’s Castoria. BEAD THIS TWICE! The only Protection that will effectually protect all people, all classes, all labor and all interests is that styled Self Protection I acquired only from a truthful knowledge of ways and means, legal and illegal, just and unjust, by which the burdens of government, profits of labor and industry, are so unequally divided. That knowledge is power, and ignorance its slave, is forcibly illustrated dailv in all walks of life, among all people, in all countries. Where knowledge is used as a power or a means for gaining wealth without labor or an equivalent therefor, it becomes necessary to deceive or keep in ignorance of such methods those from whom the wealth is taken; hence it is that of the ten thousand newspapers printed in the United States, less than ten are absolutely free and independent of the power or control of some class, party or monopoly whose interest it ia to keep the great mass of people in ignorance of their methods. The Cincinnati Weekly Enquirer is one of the few, if not the only one, absolutely free from such influences. It is the most honest, thorough, able teacher and exponent of truthful knowledge, of reliable data, free from partisan bias, fair, frank and explicit to such degree that one cannot but feel edified and capable of forming correct conclusions therefrom. Such a paper should be in every household. Sample copies can be obtained by addressing the publishers, at Cincinnati, O.
