Ratification to-night. McKinley has gone to join McGinty. The whole Republican party at Washington will be routed next time. & boodle and blocks-of-five, - Indiana is always safely Democratic. Put that down. Ex-President Cleveland is bound to succeed Benny. He told the people that “tariff is a tax” and they voted that way tjiis time. Ashcraft thinks the Democrats are infringing on the copy-right of his latest song—“open the books-” He says they are all singing it since the election. Briant paid pretty dearly for a few short puffs in the Decatur Journal when he; planked down SSO The matter at regular legal rates was worth about |2.50. ‘ From Briant to Ashcraft-: Dear Sir: —To what purpose Sid you apply my SSO since the vote indicates that I ran behind the Republican ticket in Adams county? Please explain. ■ Benjamin Harrison’s policy toward the soldier element in this state ‘ was rebuked last Tuesday. You will recollect that Ben had no postoffices for the old veterans in Indiana. P. L. Andrews was the “lone jitar” on the Republican platform in Adams county. Ashcraft would have made a few speeches but he hadn’t time. He was too busy at "borne “opening the books.” While it is true that everything is Democratic, Postmaster Quinn will be allowed to hold on to the Decatur postoffice anti) his' time expires when he will turn over the office to his Democratic successor. To W. E. Ashcraft: Please “open the books” at the page opposite Dudley’s “blocks-of-five” letter that lost the Democrats Indiana two years ago and read as follows: “Glorious tidings for Democracy. Almost everything Democratic from the lakes to the gulf and from sea to sea. McKinley, the high tariff robber, defeated. Martjn elected. Indiana Democratic by 20,000 on account of the Australian svstem, ’ Pennsylvania Democratic. Victories everywhere. .Whoopla! Whoop • fad! “The books opened/!-
Martin to-night. The books have been opened. Ashcraft did it. It’s now a settled fact that Ash. craft will never write his name with a P. M. attached. The election in 'Adams county demonstrated that as a political organizer Ashcraft hasn’t the ability of a ten year old boy. DecATUE will ratify the glorious Democratic victory to-night. Look out for a monster time. A. N. Martin and the Bluffton glee club will be here. * To W. E. Ashcraft: Pardon us for referring to our beautiful pictorial publication this morning. It’s significant of a great Democratic victory last Tuesday. All hail glorious Democracy of Adams county! You have done nobly and the applaudits of the people are with you. Proud victory perches upon your banner! It’s all wrong for the Republicans to jump upon Ashcraft and charge him with their Waterloo in Adams county. He was to busy “opening the books” to give the campaign any his earnest attention. Our neighbor down street don’t seem to understand how ’twas done. His mihd is not entirely clear on that point. Let him enquire of some of our Republicans and they can very quickly open up his understanding; The FoFt Wayne Gazette, Republican, says: “Let us now turn our attention to Thanksgiving day. At present, however there does not seem to be anything that Indiana Republicans can be especially thankful for unless it is the fact that they are still on the earth.” The Republicans bre strongly inclined to hunt up another editor for the Journal since their defeat last Tuesday. They claim there wasn’t thorough organization in this county and that Ashcraft spent too much time, “opening the books.” They should try him again. Perhaps he’ll not do so next time—We mean—- “ Open the books.” The speech of Hon. A. N. Martin at the court house on last Saturday evening was th-? occasion for one ot the largest audiences that ever graced the court room. Mr. Martin made a telling address and it brought him many votes in this county. The Bluffton Glee club, a fine body of singers, rendered some excellent campaign music that brought round after round of applause. After the elose of the meeting, Mr. Martin, and his wite, the glee dub and quite a number of old soldiers were banqueted by the Ladies Relief Corps at the G. A. R. Hall. It was a very pleasant affair.

Charles Coffelt is now at Wichita, Kas., where he expects to remain during th's winter. David Tricker is confined to his bed with a severe attack of typhoid fever. The Monroe kids have squandered about one dollar for a base ball outfit, and have their diamond field in readiness. Now for cold fun during the winter. Roy Everhart while carelessly handling a cap of a dynamite cartridge last Sunday, caused its explo ion in his hand, badly lacera'ing three fingers. Married, on Saturday evening, October 25th, Miss Lida M. Johnson, ot Monroe, to Fredrick Walkin', of Wells county. B. F. Maj >rs has again embarked in the grocery business here. Died, Very suddenly last Sunday evening, of heart trouble, H. P. Merriman, J. P. Mr. Merriman took sick a few weeks ago and was prostrated with typhoid fever but was convalescing up to Sunday evening about six o’clock when his physician, Dr. May, was called in haste, but too late. He had breathed his last before the physician arrived. Ho, for christmas and birthday presents! V. B. Simcoke is now taking orders for fine silver plated casters, knives and forks, sugar bowls, butter dishes, clocks, watches, jewelry and other novelties to fee delivered at any time before the holidays. Died, on Saturday, October 25, 1890, Mrs. Mary Williamson, aged about 70 years. Her late home was with one ot her surviving sisters, Mrs. Matilda Swartz, living some two miles southeast of Monroe. The deceased was born in Chester court?, Pennsylvania, January 15, IS2O. She remained conscious to the last and had made preparations for her departure, bidding all her friends farewell. She was a very amiable lady ar.d was highlv esteemed by all her friends and acquaint ances. There are tons of flour and-meal sold in Monroe of first and second grades by our merchants to the citizens of this community, at good round prices, and not much growling as to price. But of late there is kicking among the people, as to the quality ot the second grade of thiur and the price paid for such stuff. The millers should be proui of the amount at Monroe, and ought to furn ; ‘h us with good, wholesome flour; especially the second grade, if such kind is to be imposed upon us. The kind of sluff br< ught here the past few wreks is very coarA and black, and looks like the sweepings of a milL It is' called, or labeled “Second Grade” flour, but it looks like midling--, a d sells at $2 per hundred, when the price of midlings is one dollar per hundred at the mills. The Park Theatre was crowded yesterday afternoon and evening to see the first performance ot Barlow Bro’s minstrels, and such delighted audiences have never before been seen within the walls of the Park*. The entertainment, as a who'e, I* one of the best seen here, and elicited round after round of applause for their artistic specialties and acts. The Barlow brothers make a great team of fun makers, and the performance throughout was new, refined and artistic.— Dayton Democrat. At Meiber’s Opera House, Nov. 12. A “team” has been Organized and is under systematic training. The order already very large, is adding to its ranks many of the most influential men of the community. Both of the secret orders of our city have been the tender messengers of peace and sympathy to many bruised hearts. The election at this place passed off very quietly. We noticed nd driving to the polls in “blocks of five.” John Runyon says he likes the system well enough but it goes against the grain to have a Republican ticket attached to hrs own. One consolation John, the other fellow is as mad as you. Much earnest yet honorable effort was put forth to uncrown the peo pie’s oppressprs. Among the mmy in this vicinity deserving eulogy from the Democratic forces for faithful devotion and unselfish motives, we would especially like to mention ex trustee Herr. Being a. man of discretion and tact coupled with untiring zeal, he has been of untold value to his partv among his ex'ensive circle of warm frie'ds and acquaintances.
