THE DECATUR DEMOCRAT BI A. J. BILL. Friday, September 7,1883. The Democratic Printing Company having -told this office to S. S. Roth and Robert Cummins, of Bluffton, with this issue our relation as editor ceases. Sixteen years we labored as editor of The Democrat. The office was then sold to Mr. McGonagle. Seven and a half years later we commenced work again, which has continued a trifle over two years, making some eighteen years in all of editorial labor. This relation has created and built up many pleasant associations. As we look back and revive old memories they are hallowed with many pleasant emotions, which are treasures only to us. Notwithstanding we step down and out, The Democrat will not cease its regular weekly visits. The births, marriages, deaths and local as fairs generally will be recorded with unvarying regularity, when you, dear reader, are put under the ground. Through its editor, it will remain a sentient thing, and whatever of weal or of woe comes to us as individuals or as a community will be recorded in its columns. Give it a loyal and generous patronage, that it may be financially prosperous, and have the “sinews of war” to make it what it should be, your best and favorite paper. You are more deeply interested in it than in any other, because it is your home paper, and is with you, identified with every interest connected with your city and county. It should be in every family. For ourselves, we shall watch it each week with an unflagging interest, different from that of any other reader, growing out of our past relation, but always with an affection incomprehensible except to the editor whose hair is whitening with age in the editorial harness. Os the gentlemen who succeed us we have a word to say: Jfr. Roth has had successful experience as a newspaper man in connection with the Bluffton Banner, recently disposed of. Mr. Cummins is a j u uiUM, neeuvuv per experience. Both are staunch Democrats and have the means to give the office a new dress, enlarge and otherwise improve the paper. We bespeak for them your kindest consideration. We would like to take our brethren of the press eaeh by the hand, look them in the eye and say to each personally, that never a word have we written, pointed with the venom of malice. There are other kind friends who have given us material aid when it was valuable to us. We can only return grateful thanks. And to one and all, our best wishes •re that all of you may “live long and prosper." A. J. Hill.
A crownless king died recently at Frodshorf. Wearing a crown he would have been Henry V. of France. For the last fifty years he has been the head of the legitimists, but the claim has been hardly noticed cutside of his own faction. The Empire first and the Republic after has managed to stand between the Count de Chambord and his “divine right” as King of France. His successor is the Count de Paris, better known iu this country as the author of an excellent history of our civil war. in him the rival houses of Bourbon and Orleans unite and are reconciled, when reconciliation will be of no avail. It is likely he will die crownless as did Chambord, but should a changeable people ever incline toward a Afonarchy he has the ability and courage to make a formidable head for the legitimists to rally upon. When France sent her fleet and armies to America in the dark days of the revolution, she showed a sympathy with popular government, which has been growing and developing in one form or another ever since until it has taken deep root in the hearts of the French people, much to the prejudice of royalty and the titled aristocracy. In Europe monarchies are of deep root and long standing. The development of the republic has been of alow growth, but for this reason it gives promise of lasting, witnessing as it does practically unmoved the deatn of the legitimate heir and the pretensions of his successor. It is all well enough for republican papers to belittle Dorsey’s statements as going for nothing. It is necessary and ail they dan do. depending, as they do, for success in 'B4 by repeating the Dorsey method cf ’BO. Look out for the next campaign. Both sides express themselves able to lick the other. The doubtful quantity with Republicans is a sufficiency of Chet. Arthur's "soap.'
Adulterated tea- fixed op In the most : [proved Yankee manner are] cla'.miiysr the atteutioii of the Ameri ' can public. According to the testimony of experts there is very little genuine tea for sale in the American market. This is prebably one of tha reasons why coffee is rapidly becoming the national table beverage. Sickly Girls and Jl'omtu Read the advertisement of ZoaPbora “Woman’s Friend,'in another column, nolffly. A Experience. Mothers and daughters should feel alarmed when weariness constantly oppresses them. “If lam fretful from exhaustion of vital powers and the color is fading from my face. Parker’s Ginger Tonic gives quick relief. It builds me up and drives away pain with wonderful certainty.”—Buffalo ady. SUBSCRIBE
