Original petitioners withdrew petition and ask that the hearing of .cross petition be continued until next session, which was granted. W. H. France. Quarterly report. Surplus reported of $30.50, which was ordered paid into the county treasury. John D. Hale—bond as clerk circuit court was approved. G. Christen—Special agent in the matter of building a fence around the county eemetery made a final report of completion of same which was confirmed by the court. Midland Telephone Co. Petition for right of way to put up poles and telephone wire and maintain same—xranted. The board of Commissioners ined the official bonds on file and the school fund mortgages and approved the same. For general purposes, 60c ’inking fund, 15c, bridge, 10e. The board purchased jiu-iot No. 0 of John Dirksun. for $1,500, for the purpose of building • jail upon. The lot is south of Adams street, fronting on Market street. It is east of the Presbyterian church, extends to the river and contain? a fraction less than aa acre and a half. It is conceeded on all hands to be one of the best sites that could be obtained for that purpose. The jail will not be built until next season, but every preparation will be made so far asuetermining the plan, •to. Next week the Commissioners, Auditor and Sheriff will visit a number of recently tonstracted jails in adjoining cantata, to learn the practical advantages and defects in their cou•truction and ascertain their cost, for the purpose of giving this county thier expericß •• in jail buildinc-
