Mr. Phillipa should tell the truth < or say noth in e. The Decatur Democrat asserts that there is not a word of truth in the above paragraph, rela tive to the papers quoted upon the question of small-pox in Fort Wayne. ■ . Neither The Democrat or the Fort Wayne papers claim that the small pox is over in Fort Wayne, and the Journal cannot quote a line to that effect. The Democrat published the proclamation of the Mayor, and the statement of the Board of Health of the condition and progress of small pox in that city. The Journal has a right to publish its own impressions upon any it has no right to b untruthful Its unreliability with regard to local matters is getting tol-e notorious.

This, of course, means that they are thinking of repeating the familiar experiment of attempting to help the cause of temperance by turning the State over to the control of the Democratic party. The stupidity of that experiment is demonstrated whenever it is tried, but we suppose it will be repeated every year somewhere as long as a temperance party exists.— I'ort Wayne Gazette. The above is painful to contemplate in view of the broken promises made to the temperance people by Republican leaders during the last campaign. Help us whip these nasty Democrats, and us to carry the State, and you may dictate the legislation you desire. Aud they did; then the Republicans didn't, is about the size of it. The suggestion of the .S’uu last week that Judge Bobo, as a candidate for renomination, should meet with the undivided support of the circuit, re I ceives a hearty concurrence from every quarter. Not only the Decatur Democrat and Bluffton Banner pronounce their highest approval; but the Decatur Journal, aud Commercial, of this place, republican exchanges, speak unqualifiedly in Judge Bobo’s favor. When a term of judicial service is t about to close which calls forth the i praise of members of both parties, it is ; certainly a record in a t”> ing position to be proud of; aud the people, for their own good, should continue sueh an of- | ficial as long as possible in public station. —Portland Sun. Though we are outside the district, we desire to say that Mr. Bobo is one of the most popular judges on the bench, and his many friends in Allen county are glad to notice that he is meeting such hearty support throughout l.is distiict.— Fort Wayne Sentinel. • I —— Fifty thousand boyonets and seven-ty-five thousand special police have a rcmaikable sccati'e effect upon the Irish people.
