FLAX STRAW. 81!uw to cut it, How to cure it. I To formers of Alonis an 1 adjoining J;*j|contits, who desire to harvest their Flax to the best advantage, I will oiler the advice; HKh *" y our P' 3 * earlier than you have been accustomed to. Have no fear about your seed not being ripe. It will niatura to better advantage after it is cut than if it was growing. Use a mewing machine: cut close lo the ground; let it lay for two or three weeks. It will not mould or sprout while laying in this condition more than if it was Handing in the ground. When your seed has matured and you wish lo take tip your flax lo bouse, stack or take off the seed, use a horse rake, in the early part of the day when the dew is en. Kake up about as much as you can take care of the balance of the day. If g|ou wish to take the seed off, clean a piece pf ground about twenty feet square, uear your flax field. Commence tramping or about 10 a. m. and you II get off !• ’your seed as fast as one team can haul it | from the held. Slack your straw neatly, ■jt While your horses tramping, if you are goE ing to have a rain storm, cover your seed w heavy with tramped straw. Do not use a I threshing machine to take off the teed. I buy | unwillingly lots of flax seed, at $4 and | per ton*. Dark colored or swathrotted, f and green straw that is spread out to rot, fe' will Ire the most desirable and bring the ' highest price. The curing or rotting can be done on tiro ■ farm. It will not cost in labor over fifty cents per ton and will be Worth 5- per ton mere than unrotted when brought to the B factory. Price from S 3 to Sts per ton. I will not buy wet straw nor weeds. All inb Tennaiion in regard to curing and rotting flax straw will be given at the fatcry. ■ Farmers having last year's crop willfind S market for it at the factory. B THOMAS F. MV LOTT, Prop’r.
