Brief Essay on Powder. [New York Telegram.] To powder or not to powder, is a question each woman must settle for herself. A fine, fresh, pure skin is possible to anybody whose flesh has not been contaminated by cosmetics; those who have begun fancy they must keep on, but it is a shame for mothers to allow their fresh, sweet, lovely daughters, just in the bloom of girlhood, to make acquaintance with the powder-box. It would be amazing if it were not disgusting to see maids and mothers powdering little girls—the rosiest babies—in the dressing-room before the opening of a dancing-school ball, dredging them as a cook does a joint before roasting it. If these foolish women knew how much more beautiful the child was with her sweet, fresh tints, they would spare them till their rosebud daughters were at least in full blossom, and try first what fresh air, exercise and pure water will do. Beware of any powder that contains bismuth, unless you are willing to risk an aftercrop of purplish pimples. The One Thing Needful. We may live without poetry, music and art, We may live without condense and live without heart; We may live without friends, we may live without books, But civilized men cannot live without “cooks” We may live without work and have freedom from toil, But can’t cure Rheumatics without Eclectric Oil. Mrs. J. V. Alexander, of Big Sandy, Texas, found that her fourteen-months-old infant fretted unless it was placed on the dining-room floor daily to play. Staying behind the door an unusual time, she looked for it, and was horrified to see the child patting a very large black snake upon the head and dividing its bread with it, and the reptile showing its appreciation by wagging its tail. The snake came into the room through a hole in the floor. irTfiSTIOS, F4RMERB! And Everybody Elsel The attention of the trading public of Adams and surrounding counties is called to special announcements made by John King, jr., the carriage manufucturer of Decatur. Never has he offered work so low as at the present time. He is selling covered carriages at from $50.00 to $200.00. Indeed, you can get a carriage at almost your own price. The work manufactured by him is warranted. He employs none but the best workmen. Quick sales and small profits are | what enable him to lead. Those wanting work will lose a bargain if they fail to call at the shop of John King. jr. Think of it.' a very good top buggy for SSO or S6O. Never in the history of the town were such inducements offered to the people. Give me a call. John King. jr.
