JOHNSON CITY, Tex. (UPI) —With the tree up, the candles lit, both daughters and one boyfriend gathered around, and four 16-year-old stockings hung by the fireplace, the Johnson family was all set today for Christmas on the LBJ Ranch. Lady Bird Johnson celebrated her 52nd birthday Tuesday overseeing the final yuletide preparations. The only problem she has left is finding the right spot for a favorite Christmas ornament, a handmade angel sent to her by a friend in Germany. The President gave Lady Bird a simple gold brooch as a birthday present. She opened her presents at breakfast. There was no big party. Four red satin stockings inscribed “Daddy,” j "Mother,” "Lynda,” and "Luci”have been hung from the mantle. They have been used by the first family since the Johnson daughters were little girls 16 years ago. They will bulge with the Christmas gifts the family plans to open on Christmas Eve, as is their custom. Mrs. Johnson started the yule festivities early by lighting the eight foot tall, gaily decorated tree in the President’s den Tuesday night and the red candles placed throughout their Texas hill country home. Despite the President's engrossing budget talks, he found time to take a stroll around the ranch with his wife. And Tuesday night the Johnson’s and their daughters Lynda, 20 and Luci took a tong twilight drive before sitting down to dinner.
