MRS. RAYMOND CRIST HOSTESS TO WCTU The Monroe WCTU met at the home of Mrs. Raymond Crist for the December meeting. Christmas favors were made for the patients at the Cooper rest home and memorial hospital. All the ladies oresent were served a pot luck dinner followed by singing "Joy To The World,’’ and devotions by Mrs. Ferdinand Martz. An item from “Call to Prayer,” was given by Mrs. John Gage. A vocal duet composed of Mrs. Chester Loneenberger and her daughter, Lisa Jo, presented Chr'stmas carols. An article entitled "Liquor Served to Other People,” was given by Mrs. Robert Gage and "Keep Safe with Canital T” was given by Mrs. Homer Winteregg. The members saris'-"Blest Be the Tie That Binds?*' and the meeting was dismissed with prayer bv Mrs. Lawrence Michael. A gift exchange was held during the .social hour. ' 1« PRESENT AT WSCS MEETING The Mt. Pleasant WSCS held their December Christmas meeting recently. The group sang "Hanoy Birthday” to all members having b’rthdavs in December, followed by the onening of the meeting by Mrs. William Fifer, president. She read “Preparations for Christmas,” and gave a praver. Mrs. William Susdorf had charge of the devotions entitled "Time of Enchantment.” Mrs. Robert Fuhrman gave the lesson, "The Shadow, The Cross.” Sixteen members answered the roll calf 1 by giving "A custom of a foreign land.” The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. The group made four sick calls and sent three cdfds during the month. Mrs. Fifer reported she had received a letter from the Rev. Smith of Neighborhood House in Fort Wayne. The club members decided to send 25 dollars to help them buy a station wagon. It was also desided to give five dollars to the penny pitch. Mrs. Brice Sheets gave the closing thought for the day, “The Greatest Gift.” Mrs. Florence Susdorf, hostess, assisted by Mrs. Iva Fuhrman and Mrs. William Susdorf, served lunch to the members. Following refreshments, the gift exchange was held and secret friends were revealed. The January meeting will' , be hel4 at the home of Mr William Fifer. Mrs. William Chapman. The gifts were placed under a large white lace umbrella. Upon her arrival. Miss Burk was presented an orchid corsage. The guest list included Miss Vicki Davis, Miss Donna Volk, Miss Diana Clark, Mrs. Judy Clark, Miss Karen Etchells, Miss Susan Fuller, Miss Kay Costello, Miss Kathy Costello, Miss Susie Oland, Miss Becky Pike, Miss Louise Holycross, Miss Sharon Slick, classmates of Miss Burk; Miss Jane Burk and Mrs. James Burk, Mrs. Larry Rit'er, Mrs. Charles Linn and the hostesses and honored guest. MRS. DOVIE BEDWELL HOSTESS FOR CLUB The Golden Age club of the First Methodist church at the home of Mrs. Dovie Bedwell for their Christmas party and gift exchange. The home was beautifully decorated with potted poinsettias through the entertaining rooms and a large Chris’mas tree was featured in one room. The meeting was opened by singing “Joy To the World,” and "Silent Night.” Mrs. Paul Edwards was pianist and Mrs. Dovie Bedwell presided at the fleeting, The devotional leader, Mrs. Paul Edwards, read from John 14, and closed with leading the group in repeating the Lord’s Prayer. Mrs. Delton Passwater, program leader, gave a reading entitled “To You at Christmastime.” Miss Ivy Gilpin, chairman of the nomina'ing committee, stated that the officers for the coming year will be president, Mrs. Jay Chapman; secretary, Mrs. Frank Crist; treasurer, Mrs. W. P. Robinson; vice president, Mrs. Dovie Bedwell. A delicious luncheon was served at a long table in the dining room. The table had a centerpiece of four lighted candles on the poinsettia flowered table cloth with poinsettia flowered plates and napkins. Seventeen guests were present at the meeting and sang "Happy Birthday,” to Mrs. Gail Baughman and Mrs. Harry Sipe. Mrs. Jesse Niblick assisted the hostess. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Harry Sipe at 2 p.m. January 28. Births . At the Adams county memorial hospital: . Clarence and Salome Wickey Eicher, route 1, Monroe, became the parents of a 6 lb., 13 oz. baby girl at 8:49 p.m. Monday,. „ Thomas E. and Betty Mathys Stuber, route 1, Berne, became the parents of a 7 lb., 8 oz., baby girl at 10:06 a.m. today. Leo and Mary Marbaiigh Bennett, Box 64, Preble became the parents of a 7 lb., 5 oz. baby boy at 10:05 a.m. today.

Brite is th'e son of Mr. and Mrs. John Brite, route 1. The bride-elect attended Pleasant Mills high school and Brite graduated from Decatur Catholic high school. Both are employed by Decatur Industries. The couple is planning a late February wedding. Locals Forest Dull, of route one, Willshire, €>., has been admitted to the Van Wert county hospital, and Tulah Sheets, of Wren, 0., and Mrs. W. C. Bilderback, of route 2, Ohio City, have been dismissed. Mrs. Etta Lytle, mother of Arthur Lytle of 1069 Park View Drive, celebrated her 93rd birthday today at her home in Van Wert, O. She has eight of 11 children still living, 22 grandchildren, 28-great-grandchildren, and ( two twin great-great-grandchil-dren. A marriage license has been granted in Van Wert, 0., to Larry Wable, 25, of route 6, and Mary Jo Crosly, 20, of WilHsfoire, O. Dr. and Mrs. Henry Busche and daughter Patricia, Jacksonville, Hl., were holiday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Busche, 303 N. Ninth. They will return home byway of Jeffersonville to call on Mrs. Davis who is, at present, in the Hillcrest nursing home in that city. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hanes and children of Garrett, and Mrs. Richard Lewton and daughter, Gerri, left Monday for a Christmas vacation in Florida. They will visit relatives in Florida.

Fort Wayne Files Appeal The city of Fort Wayne, through its atorneys, has filed a motion for a new trial in the case in which a local jury awarded $8,500 damages to a Fort Wayne lady. Shortly before midnight on November 20, a 12-member jury granted Mrs. Ida Chaney $8,500 of her requested judgment of $lO, 600 from the city of Fort Wayne, in the Adams circuit court. j Mrs. Chaney asked the judgment for injuries she received in a fall on a public sidewalk in Fort Wayne in 1962. The \case was venued to the local court from Allen county. After hearing evidence presented by both sides, the circuit court’s petit jury awarded Mrs. Chaney $8,500, after three hours of deliberation. Thomas Grabill Named To Who's Who MUNCIE, Ind. — Thomas Gail Grabill, Decatur senior at Ball State Teachers College, has been named in the 1965 edition of Who's Who in American Colleges aqd Universities, a publication which annually names outstanding students from more than 650 institutions. i There are 31 Ball State seniors and six juniors appearing in the Who’s Who, selected by a committee of faculty and students on the basis bf scholarship, ship, citizenship and potential usefulness. Grabill, a physics & chemistry major and mathematics minor, is a member of Sigam Zeta, science and mathematics honorary; Kappa Delta Pi, education honorary; Interfraternity Council. He is acting judge of the Student Senate and is president of Sigma Oi fraternity. WLfIH Grabill graduated from Decatur High School in 1961. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gail M. Grabill, 120 Porter Vista, Decatur.

Mrs. Darrell Bedwell then reported for the nominating committee. Cora Rickora gave me oevotions from Luke 2, the Christmas story. After the singing of Christmas carols, Mrs. Velma Daniels gave the program, ‘There is no Time like Christmas." She told of Christmas in many foreign countries and at the Eastside Chistian Center in Indianapolis, located in a poverty stricken area of the city. The hostesses served lovely refreshments after which a gift exchange was held. Following the exchange, the ladies packed plates of homemade candies and cookies to be taken to shut-ins. A large box was also packed for the Cooper rest home. The hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Cora Rickord, Mrs. Noble Reynolds, Mrs. Glen Stevenson and Mrs. Bryce Daniels. SUNBEAM GARDEN CLUB HOLDS DINNER Members of the Sunbeam Garden club, with their husbands as guests, met at the Youth and Community Center for their December meeting and Christmas party. While Christmas music played softly in the background, the members and guests were served dinner at long, beautifully decorated tables lit b y candlelight. The dinner p r ayer was given by Mrs. Dortha Shady. Following the dinner, song sheets were passed to the group and singing was led by Mrs. Walter Egley. Youth Charged With Murder INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — Daniel Griffith IV, 15, was free on bond today on a murder charge in the fatal shooting of a youth he said he found trying to rape his mother. Griffith, who was arrested early Sunday, admitted shooting Samuel L. Martin, 19, with a 22-caliber pistol, police said. A hearing on a preliminary charge of murder was continued until Saturday in Municipal Court Monday and the boy was released under $2,500 bond.
