Jo Anne Kallenbprger had won the girl's division of the speech contest the Thursday before. — D. H. S. — Are angels inhabiting Decatur high school? Yes, paper ones! Mr. Teasel's second year art class has decorated the hall with paper angels, Wrapping paper formed into cones represent the bodies of the creatures and different colored bulbs represent the heads. Angel hair has been stuffed into the cones, shaping clouds and allowing the angels to appear to be floating along the halls. This same class is to be commended for the pleasing appearance of the high school on the outside. Mr. Feasel has had several students working on decorating the windows this past week. Small carolers are seen peeping from their places on the windows. Sharon Shannon drew up the plan for the windows.

— D. H. S. » Decatur high’s first home game proved to be letdown as the Jackets were defeated by the Columbia City Eagles, T 2-54. — D. H. S. — Senior Jane Jaeobs was electas the Pep club president, Friday. Jayne Mayclin, junior, was elected as vice president, and Susan August, senior, was elected secretary-treasurer. A boy’s pep clpb is in the process of being formed. D. H, S. — Gaining many victories for Decatur high, Saturday, were the wrestlers. They made a score of 80 out of a possible 96, winning a trophy for the school and nine individual trophies for themselves. The school trophy will be on display on the second floor this week. The members of the team are to be congratulated for their victory. Fruits, nuts, candies, and cookies adorned a Christmas tree, Monday night, for a German Christmas party. Students from Miss Weidler’s German classes prepared the special decorations for the tree by wrapping them in foil. The tree and the party were in the school cafeteria. To enhance the evening, Miss
WeidMr invited a German exchange student from the area as a special guest Polka dancing and German waltzing was a part of the program and practice of the dances was evident. The students also sang Christmas carols in German. Santa Claus climaxed the evening by appearing to pass out gifts brought by the students for an exchange. - D. H. S. - Singing for the Rotarians* annual Christmas program, Thursday, will be the boy’s and girl’s double trios under the direction of Miss Helen Hauboki. Karla Meyers, Carol Hoverman, Jane Jacobs, Cindy Haggerty, Carol Mitch and Barb Conrad are the girls. Tom Engle, Tim Singleton, Leon Habegger, Tom Schnepf, Dave Smith Jr., and Dan Miller are the boys- The groups will be attired in their new cranberrycolored outfits. — D. H. S. — Students are reminded by posters and announcements made by student council members that Friday, December 18, is the deadline for their canned-food donations. The student council plans to donate the cans from the school to the Good Fellows, who sponsor needy families at Christmas. — D. H. S. — HOAGLAND HIGH By Marcia Gevera Home ec. students greeted the month of December with a home ec. club meeting December 1. Thirteen girls from the advanced home ec. class demonstrated and displayed various Christmas decorations they had made. Then they served punch and cookies to the other members. — H. H. S. — After the Christmas party in home ec. club, the girls in the advanced home ec. class took the Betty Crocker test. — H. H. S. — The sudden bad weather gave students an unexpected day of vacation Friday, December 4. Nearly everyone enjoyed the day away from school, but many were a little disappointed that the game

with Huntertown and the record hop afterwards wore postpoped. - H. H. & — The game was rescheduled for Tuesday night, December 8. The Huntertown Wildcats beat Hoagland, 70-54. Later in the week, Friday, December Ij, the Hoagland Wildcats played Huntington Catholic at Huntington. Again the Wildcats were outscored. - H. H. S. — Earlier last week, on Tuesday, some 7th graders, all the freahmen, and a few sophomores took I. Q. tests. H. H. 8. - The Science club also met Tuesday. Mr. Sholand, ipafh and science teacher at Hoagland, gave an interesting talk in which he explained the use of the new modern math in schools. — H. H. S. — The Latin club met Wednesday to make plans for the record hop they are sponsoring next Saturday after the Churubusco game. — H. H. S. — Wednesday evening, twenty members of the FTA and Mr. Rider, their sponsor, attended a banquet at St. Francis College given by the SEA. - H. H. S. — ’ MONMOUTH HIGH By Nancy Krneckeberg The band and choir, under the direction of Ronald Murphy, conducted a winter concert last Tuesday night. They played various selections which were very- inspiring. The singing and playing were very good. - M. H. S. - . Class meetings were held last Thursday during" activity period. Most of them discussed their Christmas exchanges and parties. The freshmen are having a class party December 21. — M. H. S. — The senior class decided to give money to the WOWO “Penny, Pitch” as Fort Wayne instead of a Christmas exchange. decided not to have a party this semester. > — M H. S. — The Pep club met Monday at noon. They discused the activities of the chib and the new yells. — M. H. S. — Some members of the senior class toured the Indiana-Purdue regional campus at Fort Wayne last Thursday. After the tour of the building by lU-Purdue executives, they had a group discussion about the courses and curriculum. Maybe the tour has encouraged some seniors. — M. H. S. — » Monday, December 14, the Future Homemakers of America met at Monmouth. They talked about the collection of canned goods and Christmas caroling. — M. H. S. — The F. H. A. is helping the Good Felows drive in Decatur. Members from all the classes are bringing canned goods to help the drive. Classes are competing against each other in order to make the drive more challenging. Let’s bring those cans in! — M. H. S. — “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing.” These are the words the members of the F. H. A. will be singing Monday, December 21, while they go Christmas caroling. They will sing at the hospital, county home, and to other shutins. Sing pretty, girls! - M. H. S. - The members of the Eagle staff will meet Wednesday night after school. They have a lot of work to do on the 64-65 annual. Deciding on the arrangement of the annual will be work on Wednesday. - M. H. S. — It’s Christmas time again and everyone is in the Christmas spirit. The school is decorated with Chrsitmas decorations. A Christmas tree, standing by the office, is brightly decorated and there are other decoations on the windows and doors. — M. H. S. — bast week was a busy schedule for the Monmouth Eagles, Friday, December 11, the Eagles traveled to the Lafayette Central gym to play the Roanoke team. After a tough battle the Eagles were defeated by four points. The second team was victorious in defeating the Roanoke second team. — M. H. S. — The Eagles traveled again Saturday night to Butler to play the Eastside Blazers. The Eagles again suffered defeat. After an exciting game the second team ralied to victory again as they defeated the Eastside team by five pointe. Keep up the fight, team! — M. H. S. — The last game of 1964 will be played Friday, December 18, when the Bishop Luers team will play Monmouth at the Decatur gym. Good luck, team! - M. H. S. - The junior high and freshman teams will play the Decatur Catholic teams at the Monmouth gym Thursday, December 17. Let’s see another victory, team! - M. H. S. - Monmouth is very fortunate in having a student teacher for the home econqmics department for the next six months. Miss Janice Yoder of Berne is attending Ball State Teachers College. Mrs. Chronister will be helping Miss Yoder during her teaching. — M. H. S. -
