CHRISTMAS RECITAL PRESENTED RECENTLY Mrs. Oscar Geisel presented her students in an all Christmu recital at the Pleasant Dale church December 6. The following students participated: Kathy Barger, Joel Houk, Beth Arnold, Angela Mitchel, Kim Elder, Lora Adler, Mark Steury, Alice Staub, Joy Lynn Arnold, Tyler Rupert, Elaine Witte, Cheryl Byerly, Neal Adler, Lee Ann Reed, Rhonda Arnold, De b i Barger, Trella Mann, Karleen Nussbaum, Gretchen Leyse, Sheryl Schindler, Linda Henschen, Lois Beavers, Sally Leyse, Pamela Nussbaum, Tim Steury, Connie Arnold, Nancy Braden, Becky Shady, Beth Mann, and David Kukelhan. The Ruth and Naomi circle of the Zion United Church of Christ will meet Wednesday for the annual Christmas dinner at 12 noon. Members are asked to bring a covered dish and table service. A Christmas program will follow and members are to bring the coin cards to the meeting. The House of Friends is open for business every first and third Monday of the month from 7-9 p.m. and every second and fourth Monday from 7-8:15 p.m. It is also open every Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and every Saturday from 1-4 p.m. The Decatur home demonstration club will meet December 17 at the C. L. of C. hall at 12 noon There will be a 50-cent gift exchange and cheer sisters will be revealed. The C. L. of C. women are preparing the dinner. Reservations are to be given to Mrs. Bohnke by December 15 by calling 3-3175. The Kum-Join-Us class from the Bethany EUB church will have their Christmas dinner in the church basement Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Each member is asked to bring a small gift and money for charity. Meat, rolls, and a drink will be furnished. The December 16 meeting of Neighborhood 701 of the Girl Scouts has been canceled. The regular meeting in January will be held, however. DYB of Trinity will have their Christmas part at the home of Mrs. Ralph E. Roop, South Tenth street Friday at 6 p.m. The meeting was scheduled for Thursday but has been changed to Fri4ay. Miss Alison Kuck Is One Os Top Winners NEW YORK, — Miss Alison Kuck, of route 1, Decatur, Ind,, has been selected as one of the top prize winners in the Maidenform “Teen Dream’’ contest, it was announced today by Dr. Joseph A. Coleman, president of Maidenform. She will receive a 17-jewel Gruen wristwatch for submitting one of the selected fifth place entries. Maidenform’s congest, which was held this fall for teenage girls across the country, was won by 17-year-old Joanne Swanson, of Waukegan, 111., who will use her $5,000 first-prize earnings to pay for a four-year college education. Fraudulent Check Is Charged Local Man Richard Deßolt, 27-year-old Decatur resident, has been charged in a Van Wert, 0., court with issuing a fraudulent check. Deßolt appeared Thursday before municipal Judge Robert L. Harrington and entered a plea of guilty. He waived preliminary hearing and was bound over for grand jury action. Deßolt had passed a S2O check issued tb Floyd Tobin, payable at the First State Bank of Decatur. The complaint was signed by Tobin against Deßolt, who was allegedly residing in Van Wert at the time the offense occurred. Courthouse Christmas Tree Is Contributed A large Christmas tree, donated by the Bobby Heller nursery Qf Peterson, has been erected in the first floor hallway of the Adams county courthouse. The tree will be decorated by county Geneva Student In Ball State Choir MUNCIE, Ind. — Walter Muth, Geneva, is a member of the Ball State Teachers College concert Choir which will sing excerpts from Handel’s “Messiah” and some lighter Christmas music at the college Christmas convocation at 8 p.m., Wednesday, in Emens auditorium. Judge Byron Jenkins Dies At Portland Judge Byron G. Jenkins, 73, judge of the Jay circuit court from 1941 to 1952, died Saturday afternoon at the Jay county hospital, where he had been a patient since suffering a stroke Thursday while driving his car near his home at Portland. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Alice Jenkins, who was 100 years old Saturday; a si§ter-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Monahan, who lived with the judge, and a nephew. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Williamson and Spencer funeral home in Portland, and at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Baker funeral home in St. Paris, O. Four Vehicles Are Involved In Wreck Four vehicles were damaged as a result of a two-car accident Sunday at 5:45 p. m. on U. S. 27 at the intersection of county road 20, one mile south of Berne. The first crash occurred when William F. Reichert, 35, route i, Berne, was apparently attempting in pass an auto operated by Robert Ray Toland, 18, of route 1, Berne, as both were southbound. * As Reichert was to the left of the Toland auto, Toland started to turn onto the county road and the two vehicles collided. A short time later, while the wrecked autos were still partially in the intersection, two other vehicles collided at the same location. Ronald J. Fosnaugh, 16-year-old resident of route 2, Berne, w|s southbound and swerved to miss the wrecked vehicles. As he did, a side mirror mi his auto struck a side mirror on a pick-up truck traveling north and driven by Glen Allen Bauman, 30, of Pleasant Mills. The mirror went through a win-— dow in Fosnaugh’s rebuilt 1937 model car and the fenders on the pick-up were dented. Deputy sheriff Harold August, who just arrived to investigate when the second collision occurred, charged Reichert with passing on a yellow line, and cited him to appear in Berne justice of the peace court .Tuesday. Damages were estimated) at $l5O each to the Reichert and Toland autos, SSO to Fosnaugh’s vehicle and sls to the truck. Trio Os Accidents Reported In City The city police investigated two accidents Saturday and a third early this morning. Today’s mishap occurred at 12:55 a. m. when an auto traveling south on Second street and operated by David Lee Beery, 20, of 510 Grant St., struck a lamp post and mail box on the northwest corner of the Washington St. intersection. Beery told investigating officers he had fallen asleep and his auto slipped off the street. Damage to the car was estimated at $l5O, and to the lamp post was SBO. At 4:27 p. m. Saturday, in the 600 block of N. 13th street, a ear driven by Floyd J. route 5, Decatur, struck an auto operated by Fred J. Walther, 62, of route 3, Decatur. Pulls Out Walther pulled out of the Gerber Supermarket parking lot in front of the Myers vehicle, which was northbound on 13th street. Damages were estimated at S4O to Walther’s auto, while the Myers car was not damaged. A car driven by Terrv W. Schnepp, 23, route 1, Monroe, crashed into the rear of a vehicle operated by Charley P. Ward, 58-year-old route 5, Decatur resident, at 10:45 p. m. Saturday. Both autos were westbound on Monroe street and stopped for a red light at the Fifth street inter- I section. When the light changed, ] Schnepp struck Ward’s car in the i rear. Damages were estimated ] at $125 to the Ward car and S4O i to the Schnepp vehicle. Rev, Jaycox Dies After Long Illness The Rev. Edwin L. Jaycox, 60, retired Methodist minister, died Saturday in the Veteran hospital in Dayton, 0., following an extended illness. He graduated from Asbury College and Asbury Seminary, Wilmore, Ky., and held pastorates in Ray, Orland, Etna Green, Avilla, Monroeville and Butler. He was pastor of Trinity Methodist church at Richmond from 1955 until ill health .forced his retirement in June of 1959. He served for three years as an Army chaolain in the United States, the Philippines and Japan. Surviving are his wife, the Rev. Clarice M. Jaycox; two daughters, a sister and a brother. Funeral rites will be held at 10 a m. Wednesday at the Methodist church at Centerville, with the Rev. Shirey E. Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery, northeast of Indianapolis. Friends may call at the Jones & Placke funeral home, Richmond, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Sandy Liby and Nola Isch.

SALEM WSCS HAS POT LUCK DINNER The Salem WCS had a pot luck dinner in the church basement Thursday. The husbands were the guests for |ie meeting. The tables were beautifully decorated for the occasion. Following the dinner hour, the ladies held their regular monthly meeting in the sanctuary. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Cliff Roe, with a song by the group. Mrs. Roy Miller led prayer and Mrs. Austin Merriman gave the devotions from Matthew 2:2-10. Mrs. Merriman also gave a poem, “On Christmas Eve.” Roll call was answered by 15 members with Christmas memories. Magazine articles were given by Mrs. Roy Miller and Mrs. Roy Frank. The lesson, “A Christmas Garland," was given by Mrs. Carl Schug, Mrs. Oscar Young, Mrs. Floyd Meyer, Mrs. Ray Frank, Mrs. Charles Burkhart, Mrs. Chester Bryan and Mrs. Morris Miller. Mrs. Roy Miller gave a piano solo and Mrs. Carl Schug read a poem she had written, “This is the meaning of Christmas." Mrs. Charles Burkhart gave a reading and Mrs. Cliff Roe read a poem entitled, “Each Little Seed We Sow.” Mrs. Myrl Riley gave a vocal solo and a donation

of money and food was receded for a needy family in the neighborhood instead of exchanging gifts as was the custom. Following the monthly business, the meeting was closed with a prayer by Mrs. Carl Schug.
