Evansville also carries the No. 1 UPI small-college rating into the game, possibly the No. 1 attraction on Indiana's college basketball weekend schedule. .Larry Sheffield tossed in 37 points in Notre Dame's rout of the Titans, but the Irish didn’t move ahead to stay until close to the intermission. They led 51-46 at the break, then pulled away quickly. Walt Sahm added 25 points and Jay Miller 18. Lou Hyatt and Dorie Murrey with 21 points each led Detroit. IHSAA To Take More Action! INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — The Indiana High School Athletic Association Board of Control is expected to decide before Christmas whether to reinstate Muncie Central to its good graces. There were some indica'ions that disciplinary action might be forthcoming against other schools IHSAA Commissioner Phil Eskew said that the board “discussed a couple of other cases" at a meeting here Thursday and that he expected to “have something to announce" today. At Thursday’s meeting, Muncie Central formally applied for reinstatement effective Jan. 1. The school was suspended for a year last January because of “laxity and irregulari'ies" involving athletics. Eskew said the board took no immediate action on the application but probably would before Christmas. He added that board meTnbers seemed to feel that Muncie officials "are trying to get their house in order." The Bearcats, who were defending state champions at the time of their suspension, plan to open their basketball season Jan. 2 if they are reins'a]ted. Eskew said the board Thursday also discussed plans for the 1965 state basketball tourney and probably will meet once more before Jan. 1 to discuss ‘hem further. Auburn Stall Fails, Garrett Wins, 23-22 INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — The pros have their 24-second rule but there'll be stall games in Indiana high school basketball as long as the rules permit. The first one of any consequence this season cropped up Thursday night and, as usual, it backfired. Smaller Auburn tried to play keep-away with rangy Garrett, but the Railroaders pulled it out, 23-22, for their fourth victory in five starts. Garrett led 20-9 but Auburn, got hot in the final three minutes and almost won. Auburn's Pat Welsh led the game was played on a neutral scoring 'With 14 points. The court at Fort Wayne. Meanwhile, lOth-ranking Evansville Rex Mundi, a state tourney finalist last March, made it five in a row and two straight this week by trouncing Owensboro Senior of Kentucky, 76-51, and in the Northwestern Conference, Hammopd Clark beat East Chicago Roosevelt, 59-52, and Emerson dumped Wallace in an all-Gary tussle, 65-56, for its first in five games. ■< J College Basketball By United Pre** International East Edinboro 92 Thiel 61 Grove City 76 Carnegie Tech 58 Northeastern 64 Tuf s 49 Utica 64 Siena 48 Bos.
