MONMOUTH HIGH By Naney Krueckeberg The Monmouth students had an unexpected vacation Monday because at furnace trouble. Everyone enjoyed the vacation. The next scheduled vacation is for Christmas. - M. H. S. - Janelle Nyffeler, a senior at Monmouth, has been chosen as co-ed correspondent for the Co-ed magazine. She was appointed by Mrs. Chronister, the home ec. teacher at Monmouth. Janelle will keep the Co-ed magazine Informed about the activities at Monmouth. Congratulations, Janeße, on die appointment. — M. H. S. — Report cards will be distributed Wednesday, December 9. the six week’s tests were given last week. - M. H. S. — The Monmouth Eagles were, defeated by the Adams Central Jets Tuesday, December 1, at the Decatur gym. The second team was also defeated. - M. H. S. — At the Monmouth-Decatur Catholic basketbail game Friday night, the Eagles were defeated by the Commodores after a nick and tuck game. The second team was also defeated. Both teams showed great efforts. - M. H. S. — Elmhurst traveled to the Decatur gym Saturday night to play against the Eagles. They were successful in defeating both the varsity and second teams. - M. H. S. — A pep session was held Tuesday morning, December 1, to get ready for the busy basketball ■schedule during last week. The cheerleaders showed the club some new yells for the games. Keep up the cheering, club! — M. H. S. — The tour of the Indiana-Purdue regional campus at Fort Wayne by some of the Monmouth seniors last Thursday was cancelled because of the bad weather. Mr. Dorwin has re-scheduled the tour for this week. - M. H. S. — The junior high and freshman basketball teams were successful in defeating the Adams Central junior high and freshman teams. Congratulations, teams, on the victories! - M. H. S. — The student council met Tuesday during fourth period. - M. H. S. — The girls from the senior home economics class took the Betty Crocker test Tuesday, December 1. The test was given by Mrs. Chronister. - M. H. S. — The sophomores were proud last week. They received their sweaters and jackets. The sweaters and jackets are black with gold trim. They look real neat, sophomores. - M. H. S. — Some of the Monmouth seniors tok the SAT test at the Decatur high school Saturday. — M. H. S. — The girls had their first game of the volleyball tournament Friday at noon. Senior girls defeated , the junior team and the sopho- - more C and D teams tied. 2 i. — M. H. S. — It’s anbther busy week for the -Monmouth Eagles. Friday, Degeember 11, the Eagles will play S the Roanoke team. The Eagles

S. - ADAMS CENTRAL HIGH Last Saturday morning the col-lege-minded seniors of Adams Central found their way to the Decautr high school to take the SAT test. A large number of our seniors took this test, which is required for entrance into most colleges. — A.C.HA. -. “Ooh’s” and "Ah’s” filled the halls of Central last Friday as the pictures arrived for the eagerly - awaiting seniors. — A.C.H.B. — Last Friday night the highflying Jets eked out their fifth straight victory of the season from the Dunkirk Speedcats by the narrow score of 57-55. Tony Ehrsam, Steve “Smitty” Smith, and Art Ringger tied for scoring honors with 11 points each. This Friday night the Jets will meet the rugged Ossian Bears at Ossian. Saturday night, after a series of four away games, Adams Central will play host to Woodlan quintet. — A.C.H.S. — The band has been working extremely hard for the last several weeks in preparation for their annual winter concert to be presented next Tuesday night. The public is invited to hear Mm far* formance of Adams Central’s four bands. — ACM - Adams Central students enjoyed another in their series of assembly programs Monday morning. Irv Morgan, a judo expert, explained his talent and illustrated this art by using seven seniors. They were Dean Harmon, Norm Brokaw, Steve Kaehr, Dave Suman, Ken Habegger, Judy Ringger, and Rita Mattox. — A.C.H.S. — Yesterday during homeroom period, the sample boxes of Christrrtas cards, which were recently sold by the seniors, were auctioned off to the junior and senior classes. The proceeds were put in the senior class treasury. — AC.ILS — Resolutions to try just a little harder were made today as report cards were issued for the second grading period. The honor roll will be announced at a later date. — A.C.H.B. — Adams Central welcomes Bruce Burkhart, of Muncie, as a new teacher at our school. He will be teaching government and history for the rest of the semester during the absence of our regular teacher, John Rosier. We wish Mr. Rosier a speedy recovery. — A.C.HJ3. — DECATUR CATHOLIC HIGH By Patricia Schurger Think! Pondering over the SAT last Saturday morning, the D. C. H. S. students tried hard to do their best in this very important exam. A few students took additional tests in the afternoon, writing samples and achievement tests. — D. C. H. S. — Last Friday and Saturday excitement ran high at the two basketball games'which ended victoriously for D. C. H. S. The entire school is proud of the team and the spirit shown at these games. H. 8. - "My worthy opponent has stated —These Words rang in the junior English classes as the debates continued, through the past few weeks. AH teams, whether they won or loss, gained much experience in the field of debating. - D. C. H. S. - The high school participated in a Bible service last period Monday afternon. This service was held in preparation for the feast of the Immaculate Conception Tuesday. The entire student body gained experience and knowledge from this beautiful service. — D. C. H. S. — DECATUR HIGH By Darlene Richards ■hie Yellow Jackets will be hosts to Columbia City in their first home game Friday. Saturday they will again be hosts, this time to Cobcordia. — D. H. S. — DHS wrestlers scored another win Thursday, when they outwrestled the Manchester grapplers, 37-13. Saturday they came home from New Haven with another victory. Nice going team! Last night they met the Union City wrestlers at Union City. — D. H. S. - Due to bad weather, the group going to the Indiana-Purdue Center in Fort Wayne had to reschedule their trip for Thursday, December 10. - D. H. S. - Feature twirler, Donna Wolfe, was accidentally omitted from the list of new band officers. — D. H. S. - Christmas cards are again being made this year by the foreign language classes, French and Latin, taught by Miss Charlotte Vera, and German, taught by Miss Catherine Weldler. The students chose a theme from either Christmas or something relating to their respective language and wrote a verse in that language. — D. H. S. — Student council members are sponsoring a canned food drive. The drive started December 7 and

She received a pin and a certificate. - D. H. S. - Tuesday December 1, all senior home economics students took the Betty Crocker test. The local winner will then proceed to a state contest. — D. H. S. — Freshmen taking home economics are making booklets on Christmas customs, decorations, and meanings. - D. H. S. — Highlighting the annual Christmas program at DHS will be the fact that it will be on radio. It will be broadcast from the high school auditorium. — D. H. S. — Eight girls and boys were chosen by Tony Kelly, speech instructor, for the annual Rotary speech contest. The girls, who spoke December 3, gave their speeches on “Dropouts — The Cause and Cure.” Giving their speeches were Carolyn Lesiuk, Susan Ostermeyer, Charlotte Ludwig, JoAnn Kallenburger, Janeen Essex, Bonnie Hart, Jean Swickard, and Pat Beam. Os these, JoAnn Kallenburger received a trophy for winning first prize. — D. H. S. — Tom Whitaker, Jack Stauffer, Tom Engle, Richard Anderson, Tim Singleton, Jim Brown, Barry Burnett, and Mark Jones will give their speeches on “Medicare” December 10. — D. H. 3. — Judo, the art of self-defense, was demonstrated to the student body December 7 by Irv “Chief” Morgan. After being introduced by Tim Magley, he began by warning that the practice of judo without proper supervision is very dangerous. With Carole Mitch, Barb Conrad, Gary Meyers, Dave Adams, Dan Johnson, Tom Davidson and Steve Gephart to help him, he demonstrated various phases of self-defense. - D. H. S. — Hubert Feasel, art instructor, chose Sharon Shannon’s sketch to use tor the decorating theme on the windows of the school. - D. H. S. — Girl Scout Troop 122 and a small group of band members sang and played on the annual Santa Claus train Saturday, December 5. — D. H. S. — To encourage spirit and support tor our first home game, the cheerleaders are busily decorating the second floor display case. — D. H. S. —
