Berne, Eagles Lose Saturday Evening
Berne's Bears continue to surprise, even though they lost an 81-52 decision to Ossian’s Bears at the Berne gymnasium Saturday night. * The Berne lads led throughout the first half before finally bowing to the high-scoring Ossian quintet which racked up its seventh win with out a loss this season. Berne is now 2-2. But the Berne Bears gave the Bears from Ossian their toughest test thus far. Coach Sanford Brueckheimer’s quintet, without awarsity returnee from last season, jumped into a quick bulge and held a 20-13 margin after one period. Berne boosted the difference to eight points, 24-16, and led 28-21 late in the second quarter before Ossian came roaring back to knot the score at 29-all at the main intermission. Ossian got red-hot in the third stanza, doubled their score of the. first half, and took a commanding 58-40 lead into the final canto. Sophomore Larry Beer continued his sensational scoring for Berne, tallying 16 points. Rick Beer added 12 and Dave Flueckiger 10. Flueckiger got all of his points in the first half, but also picked up four fouls and got his fifth early in the third quarter. Ossian had four players in twin figures, led by Elzey’s 21 markers. Monmouth Beaten Monmouth, which nearly upset the Decatur Commodores Friday night, suffered its seventh loss without a win this season as they dropped a 93-53 contest to tall Elmhurst in the Decatur gym Saturday night. Led by 6-6 Greg Robers and 6-5 Tom Mullans, the Trojdns poured 29 points through the meshes in the first eight minutes for a 29-14 lead. They added another 23 in the second stanza for, a big 52-32 lead at halftime, and bad a 68-44 advantage after three periods. Mullans’ 31 tallies led the scoring parade for the Trojans, who shot nearly .50Q from the field. • Ted Barker added 16 and Robert 15. Danny Conrad was the only Eagle in double figures, with 24 * markers, all on field goals. Sophomore Denny Reinking chipped in with nine. Scoring Summaries:

Outlast Larwiai Commodore Coach Vows 'Hard Work' After Nipping Two Winless Teams
by Bob Shralnka “We’ve still got a lot of work to do and I intend to give them some pretty hard workouts this week,” were the comments of Commodore coach Bob Boyle after his squad squeaked out a victory over a winless Larwill team Saturday night. The Commodores came up with their biggest point production of the season in an 80-70 victory over the Trojans in a game that
Canton Bulldogs Cop UFL Title From Indy INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — The Canton Bulldogs reign as United Football League champions today fay virtue of their 19-14 victory over the Indianapolis Warriors, but the status of both teams for 1965 remained in doubt. League officials indicated the possibility that the Canton franchise may be moved during the winter. At the same time, spokesmen of the Warriors indicated that the franchise may either be moved or be taken over by another group of backers. Rodeo On TV LOS ANGELES (UPI) — The national finals rodeo from the Los Angeles Sports Arena, an event that has attracted prizes totaling $65,000 for more than 100 cowboys, will be televised on ABC-TV’s Wide World .of Sports program on Dec. 12.
was much closer than the final score. The Decatur lads barely nosed out Monmouth, losers of five of five, Friday night, and were* nearly as hard-pressed to upend Larwill, a team that came to Decatur without a win in four starts. Boyle, obviously disappointed although his charges got their second and third wins against just a single loss in the two games last week, said that his club “is just not running like we should .... these kids have got to get some desire out there.” He added that “our kids get too contented with a lead of 10 points or so.” Story Saturday Being contented with a good lead almost cost the Commodores Saturday night as they battled Larwill in the Adams Central gymnasium. The contest had been postponed from November 20. Neither team could gain an edge of more than five points through the first half. The Commodores held a 15-14 lead after one period, saw Larwill grab a 33-30 margin late in the second stanza, and then bounced back to take a 34-33 lead to the dressing room at halftime. But in the first two minutes and 27 seconds of the third canto, the Commodores blitzed the nets for 13 points and a 47-35 lead. Instead of the green and gold adding to the margin, though, Larwill began pecking away and at the 2:27 mark Rich Helfrich canned a pair of charity tosses to whack the deficit to four points, 50-46. At the end of the stanza, Decatur led 58-52. Two minutes into the final quarter, Larwill trailed by just one, 60-59, as Dave Menzie tipped in a rebound. With 5:47 to play, Menzie canned two shots from the foul line, and the battle was knotted at 62. Another Spurt Realizing they had blown a commanding lead, the Commodores stepped up the tempo and poured in 18 points in the last stare minutes and 47 seconds to P«ll away to the final margin of 10 points, 80-70. One bright light in the Commodores* second unimpressive performance in two nights was Dave Lengerich, the lanky 6-4 junior who played a good portion of the .third period and briefly in the final one. “I was pretty well pleased with him,” said coach Boyle. Best Night Veteran Terry Myers came up with his best scoring night of the ' season leading his team with 20 tallies. Johnny Lose scored 17, including nine of 10 from the foul line, while Pat Gage and Bill Bolinger added 15 each. Bolinger required a couple of rest periods due to a blister on his foot that slowed him. Tex Plummer, the husky senior redhead, topped the Trojans with 20 markers, and hustling sophomore Jim Walter contributed 16. Junior Dave Menzie added 15. Both teams had good nights at the foul line, as the Commodores converted 18 of 24 and Larwill hit and 24 of 35. Twentytwo personals were whistled on Decatur and 18 on Larwill, and each team was assessed a technical and each lost one player via the foul route. The Commodore shooting wasn’t too impressive, as they hit slightly better than 31 per cent from the field. They controlled the backgrounds most of the way, with Schultz pulling down 18, MyCrs 15 and Bolinger 12. Coach Boyle said his team would devote a lot of time to its fast break attack this week in preparation for an invasion of, Redkey Friday night. Redkey' will provide strong opposition, as shown by their two-point decision over a good Bryant team last Weeek.
