Grapplers Record Second Win

Last week it was veteran Tim Magley. Last night it was another veteran, Dave Adams, who turned the tide and brought the Decatur High School wrestling team its second victory in two outings this season. With his team trailing by four, points, Adams bounced onto the mat, pinned his opponent in 38 seconds, and sent the Decaturites onto a 37-13 victory at Manchester Thursday evening. Monmouth Wins Pair From Adams Central

Monmouth’s freshman and junior high teams won a double victory from Adams Central Thursday evening. The Monmouth junior high, leading by a 14-7 score at the half had to withstand an Adams Central rally to puH out a 34-33 victory in a squeaker. Rex Journay, oi the winners, topped his club with 16 points. Whitman |dded eight, Strahm scored four and Geyer, Werling and Burger two apiece. Sipes’ 17 tallies led A. Monmouth, Southeast sth & 6th Winners Monmouth romped to a 36-9 victory over the Lincoln team in a sth and 6th grade game Thursday. Southeast posted a 28-14 win over the Lutheran school in the same league yesterday. Koon’s 12 tallies led-.the winners and Bullinger, chipped in with five. Conrad’s seven markers was high for the Lutheran quintet. NCAA Soccer Battle PROVIDENCE, R. I. <UPD— Navy, which upset defending champion St. Louis, 2-1, will meet Michigan State for the NCAA soccer championship Saturday at Brown University.

As Adams stepped onto the mat, his team trailed, 104. But the rugged veteran wasted no time in moving his club into an 11-10 lead. Adams quickly took down Frieden of the hosts and then proceeded to use the delicate guillotine hold to pin him in just 38 seconds. After the match, coach Giessler said the guillotine is one of the most difficult holds a high school wrestler can administer — Adams needed only 38 seconds! The pin was one of the quickest in the team's history. Darryl Grote, with a takedown for two points and an escape for one point, recorded a 3-0 decision over Reams and heavyweight Steve Beavers completed the bout with a 7-0 decision over Ross. Beavers’ points all came in the second round, on a reversal predicament and a near-fall. The Decatur lad’s perfect record will be in danger Saturday when they travel to New Haven to meet the rugged Bulldogs in a 10 a m. meet.
