HISTORICAL CLUB HAS It PRESENT The Historical club met at the home of Mrs. Hersel Nash with 17 members answering the roll call. Mrs. Herman VonGunten was the program leader and read a most interesting paper on the state of Pennsylvania. “A land covered with forests was given to William Penn by King Charles II of England in payment of a debt. This large piece of land became known as Pennsylvania. Nature gave this state go many rishes it was bound to become a leader. It is called the Keystone state because it was the central state of the original 13 states. Coal and iron are Pennsylvania’s two greatest riches. The state is also rich in oil. In agriculture, industry, education, the arts and sciences, the state of Pennsylvania has made great and important contributions to the nation. Greater than any material things, are the ideals and principals left to use by the statesmen from the Pennsylvania colony who helped to found our nation. “Although Harrisburg is the state capital, one could hardly write about this g.eat state without telling of the historic greatness of Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love. It was in this city that our Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. The second great document in our history, the Constitution of the United States, was drawn up in this historic city.” Following the reading of Mrs. YonGunten’s paper, the committee for the Christmas party announced that they will serve a 12 o’clock dinner at the home of Mrs. W.
