Thinking of Others As Thanksgiving approaches, it is natural in giving thanks we think of helping others. Christ him-.-self said that he who helps the least of these, is helping Him. In the parable of the good neighbor he pointed out that the hated Samaritan had more real charity and love for his brother than the Pharisees and Sadducee#. And again, he pointed out that even the tax collector loves his own family, while a real Christian shows his Christian love for every man. And this is a fitting approach to Thanksgiving, since what better way can be truly show our thanks than by helping others? The Thanksgiving Protestant service this year will take up a special collection for the Indiana Christian Rural Overseas Program. The CROP program is a small but important program. In Indiana last year, $203,000 was raised, with nearly $9,000 of that coming from Adams county. We shipped $960,000 worth of surplus food and milk overseas; purchased 19,992 pounds of corn syrup for Algeria, shipped rice to Indonesia, and agricultural tools to Greece. And this year a serious problem presents itself. For the past ten years, nine milk stations in Hong Kong alone have furnished a daily glass of milk to 52,000 children who badly need it to survive. But this year our milk is no longer in surplus, and only 50% will be available next year. This means we will have to raise a greatly increased amount to purchase the milk. We don’t dare stop a valuable program, and we certainly don’t want to cut down on the self-help programs, or other programs. A gift of $3 will provide a glans of milk a day for a year for one child! This seems little enough, but think of the help it would be to a starving child. If you want to help, mail your check to Adams County CROP, c/o Brice Bauserman, First Bank of Berne, Berne, Ind., 46742. One sure way of stopping Communism is to show how Americans are real Christian brothers to the starving of the world. One sure way of letting Communism take over the world is sit back and forget others especially the two-thirds of the children in the world who will go to bed hungry tonight!
