World Collection For Poor Is Urged VATICAN CITY (UPD — A Chilean cardinal proposed to the Ecumenical Council today that all Christians, Catholic ♦ and Protestant alike, sponsor an anual collection throughout the world to give money to the poor. . The proposal of Raul Cardinal Silva Henriquez of Santiago was designed not only to help the misery of poverty but to be an ecumenical work uniting all Christian brothers. He said it was imperative that’ "the use of riches be better distributed throughout the world” and that such an international and interdenominational collection would be a first step. > . ’ Hie idea also would be ecumenical in that a leading Protestant theologian, Oscar Cull- ” man, suggested something along the same lines several years ago. Silva Henriquez said such a collection would be a "sacramental of the brotherhood." Poverty is one of the problems of the contemporary age dealt with in the council tract "the church in the modern world," which the more than 2,200 cardinals, archbishops, bishops and other Catholic prelates continued discussing in St. Peter’s Basilifca. Yugoslavia Faces New Flood Danger BELGRADE, Yugoslavia (UPD — Continuing rain today brought danger on new floods in northern Yugoslavia. where floodwaters in two provinces already have caused $4 million in damage and claimed many lives. ' The official death count in the provinces of Croatia and Slovenia stood at 4. but unofficial reports* said as many as 18 persons were dead. It was the worst flood in the area since 1933. Rain fell during the night in parts of Slovenia, adding to the discomfort of refugees on rooftops and creating a threat of further rises in the republic’s swollen rivers. A two-week period of heavy rain sent the Sava River over protective dikes Monday in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia and the second largest city in Yugoslavia. Nine feet of water swirled through Zagreb’s streets today and 70,000 of its 470,000 population sought safety in the hills. Rescie boats and helicopters continued to pick up householders who had climbed to their roofs for safety. Monday night, the official Tanjug news agency reported Zagreb was “full of lifeboats. There are still several hundred people who are still on the roofs." The situation improved in Zagreb during th night when the river’s 17-foot rise leveled off. But Slovenia, where it las raining, is upriwr from Zagreb.
