paneling can serve beautifully in both,'” says John Concord, home improvement expert for Masonite Corporation. Take Hard Knock*, w Handsome, Too “Factory-finished woodgrains like those in the Royalcote line have high-styled appearance, top performance, easy maintance and economy. The panels will take hard knocks in the informal area and be a handsome background in the 'parlor' space.” Owners of older homes needn't envy those who are buying - “ As an important safety asset in the bathroom, the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Information Bureau recommends the use of a grab bar on the wall next to the bathtub In installing a grab bar. it should always be firmly anchored to the wall studding, not just "tacked" onto the tile or plaster.

Answer To Suburban Water Shortages Many suburban communities literally are drying up. Community water systems have already reached a critical stage in many areas, with similar crises just ahead in others. In community alter community. summer lawn sprinkling and car washing is either restricted or prohibited althogether. In some areas, water pressure from the community system frequently drops to almost nothing, leaving homeowners without a supply for hours at a time. All of this, reports the Water Systems Council, points up the importance and value of private water systems (wells) from suburban homes. The Council cites these advantages: 1. The homeowner has complete control over his water.supply. 2. He has unrestricted use year-round — no ‘ non-sprinkling days." 3 There are no shortages or dips in water pressure during peak usage periods of the day. 4 He gets fresher water — drawn from its pure source when he uses it. It never stands in mains or reservoirs. 5. It’s economical, there are no water bills; the system usually pays for itself over years of dependable use. 6. It's a protected source of water in case of an emergency such as nuclear attack, broken main or nearby fire. 7 It permits a wider choice of building sites, since the proximity to water mains is no factor. 8. Above all, the water from a, properly designed private system is the purest and best-tast-ing available. Homeowners interested in learning more about private systems should contact a qualified water systems dealer or well driller. He will estimate current and future needs and recommend the type best suited for individual requirements. Fishing or hunting trophies may be mounted handsomely on an oval piece of predecorated Marlite paneling , left over from a room project.

Basement Costs Money - Keep It Dry Basements are back in business. After several years of decline, the trend is now swinging once again toward houses that include them. Homes built without them during the past years have convinced most people of this: they need them. But somehow, the new basements just aren’t the same as the ones we knew years ago. They’re no longer the dark, dank area to hide unwanted articles. Today, a good percentage of new basements have finished areas. A sizable investment is rnnms for expanded family living made in adding this "livability down and below,’’ and its good sense to protect it against water damage so prevalent in many areas. Since the soil around new homes is usually heavily laden with moisture, many homeowners find themselves confronted with a seepage problem. This, coupl>ed with the recurring danger of flash floods, broken mains and backed-up sewer pose a threat to today’s “new-improved" basement. The Plumbing - Heatipg - Cooling Information Bureau reports that the best insurance against such damage is the tangible kind —a sump pump (sometimes called a “cellar drainer.”) Located in a sump or pit at the lowest drainage point on the basement floor, a sump pump automatically removes water and discharges it into a sewer, yard or other convenient spot. Homeowners interested in this vital basement protection are advised to constant a qualified .plumbing contractor for information concerning the best type of sump pump for their particular needs. You Can Build Fishing Shanty You can preassemble hardboard panels to make a low-cost ice-fishing shanty or toolhouse that’s demountable. A free plan from the Masonite Home Service Bureau.
