HONORARY MEMBER PRESENT AT MEETING Mrs. Leo Workinger entertained the ladies of the Live and Learn home demonstration club recently at her home. The club was opened by Mrs. Earl Chase giving the history of the song of fie month, “Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms.” The group then sang it. Mrs. Workinger had charge of the devotions. Mrs. Marie Marbacn followed with the reading of the constitution of the club. Twentyfive members were present, and Mrs. Marion Stults, honorary member, attended. Members answered the roll call with “What my club means to me.” An interesting lesson was given by Mrs. Ivan Barkley on Hoosier culture. The health and safety lesson then followed by Mrs. Hugh Nidlinger. Mrs. Jack Gray and Mrs. Leo Workinger gave a lesson on ”Is it a bargain?” Mrs.

Nellie Price, president, gave the following names for the nominating committee: Mrs. Ivan Barkley, Mrs. Marie Marbach and Mrs. Warren Nidlinger. Lovely refreshments were served by the hostess and her assistant, Irma Rabbitt. The October meeting will be with Mrs. Hugh Nidlinger and will be a hobo party. BUFFET SUPPER HELD BY HONORARY GROUP Mrs. Gerald Smith was hostess to 26 members of the honorary group of the Phi lota Phi sorority recently. Following the 6:30 p.m. buffet; supper the evening was spent playing cards. Winners of the games and receiving prizes were Mrs. Maynard Hetrick and Miss Eleanor Pumphrey. Assistant hostesses were Mrs. William Linn, Mrs. George Thomas, Mrs. Eugene Durkin, Mrs. Ronald Parrish, and Mrs. Richard Macklin.
MRS. RONALD PIERCE HOSTESS FOR CUB Mrs. Ronald Pierce was hostess for the Decatur Bellmont home demonstration club held recently. The meeting was opened with the creed and the song of the month Roll call was answered by “what my club means to me.” One guest, Lora Biberstein, was present. The citizenship lesson was given by Mrs. Charles Hoffman on state government, constitution and offices. The health and safety le&son was presented by Mrs. Robert Lengerich on civil defense covering radio-active fallout, plans of action, fallout shelters and types or radioaction. Mrs. Ronald Colclasure and Mrs. Thomas Harrell gave a lesson on "Is It a bargain?" She presented a written quiz that explained “what to look for in a bargain, meal planning and are specials really specials?” Is it a real bargain”? “Make your own specials!” Officers were elected for 1965. They included president, Mrs. Ronald Pierce; vice president, Mrs. Thomas Harrell; secretary and publicity' chairman, Mrs. Charles Hoffman; treasurer, Mrs. Mervin Lister; leaders, Mrs. William Kenny and Mrs. William Porter; alternate leaders, Mrs. Ronald Colclasure and Mrs. Robert Geimer; song leader, Mrs. Clark; • citizenship leader, Mrs. Wayne McDonald; health and safety leader, Mrs. Joseph Call. October’s meeting is to be held at Mrs. Merlin Lister’s home. Members are to come masked. MRS. WILBUR FOOR HOSTESS FOR HOPE CIRCLE The Hope Qircle of the Union Chapel EUB church met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Wilbur Foor. The meeting was opened by the leader, Mrs. Wayne Troutner, with group singing, “All Hail the Power of Jesuj’ Name.” Mrs. Clarence Drake read the scripture taken from Mark 11: 1-9. Using as the topic for the evening, “Under Three Flags,” a travelogue of people was presented by the following: Mrs. Sherman Koos, Mrs. Robert Workinger, Miss Janet Brown and Mrs. Wilbur Foor. Following this a prayer period was observed. An interesting insight on “The Focus,” was presented to the group by Mrs. Wayne Troutner. The meeting was closed by the group singing, “Master Let Me Walk With Thee.” The business meeting was conducted by Janet Brown. She gave the following dates to be remembered: October 6, WSWS fall institute, Fort Wayne: November 3, study class, Union Chapel EUB; November 6, world community day, Presbyterian church; November 8, thank offering service, Union Chapel EUB. The December meeting of the Hope Chapel will meet November 29 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Koos, with Janet Brown being the leader. This will be a pot luck dinner for the families. Refreshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Wilbur Foor. annual convention TO BE HELD ’AT BLUFFTON The eighth district of the Indiana Federation of Clubs will hold its annual convention at the Bluffton Methodist church, October 8. Registration and coffee hour will be at 9 a.m. IFC second vice president, Mrs. Milliam Dudenhuffer, will speak on “Let’s keep score,” and Mrs. Robert M. Langhrey, Jr.,; chairman, will speak on the topic, i “A place in the sun.” They will' talk in the morning. Mrs. David “ W. Martin, IFC president, will, talk in the afternoon on “Woman’s" role in politics.” The county pre-, sidents and the district will give the members an out-> line of the projects of IFC for toe' next two years. SURPRISE PARTY FOR CARPE DEIM CLUB Mrs. Elmer Chase gave a surprise party for the former Carpe Deim club. The evening was spent in reminiscing and making record- j ings. Those present were Mrs. Harry Magner, Mrs. Harve Baker and Mrs. Ralph Evans, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Izora Roop, Gas City, and Mrs. Albert Beery, Mrs. Alva Lawson, Mrs. Dee Fryback and Mns. W. Guy Brown. Unable to atend were Mrs. Forest Ripley, Willshire, 0., Mrs. Russell Owens and Mrs. Robert Krick. Mrs. Fred R. Smith was a guest. Harry Magner, Fort Wayne, accompanied his wife and was a guest of Elmer Chase., WESLEY COUPLES CLASS MEETS THURSDAY The Wesley couples class of the First Methodist church held their October meeting Thursday evening in the church dining room. The meeting was opened by the members singing “Only Trust Him.” Mrs. Orval Baughmdn was in charge of toe devotions, reading from Corinthians 1 and 2 The Rev. Melvin Seeger then offered prayer. Mrs. Lloyd Ahr, toe president, conducted toe business meeting. Plans are being made to have a chili supper October 17. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Soliday gave a very interesting talk on their recent trip to Henderson settlement house, Kentucky. At the close of toe business meeting, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Smith were in charge of toe entertainment. Games were played and prizes were won by various winners. Refreshments of sandwiches, pie, and coffee were served from tables beautifully decorated with fall flowers, pumpkins, and bitter sweet. Those serving on toe committee were Mr. and Mrs. Watson Maddox, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Baughman, Mrs. Harold Gay and Mrs. Kathryn Nelson. JOLLY HOUSEWIVES ELECT OFFICERS The Jolly Housewives home demonstration club met Tuesday , evening at toe Pleasant Mills Methodist church, with 25 members and one guest present. The meeting was opened by praying toe Lord’s Player in unison. The roll call was answered by telling “what the club means to me.” The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read. The history of the song of the month, “Believe Me, If All Tljose Endearing Young Charms,” was given by toe president, Ethel Ray, followed by toe group singing toe song. The president read the constitution of the home demonstration club. Helen Lengerichgave an interesting lesson on “Knowing Your Labels.” She said to be sure and read all labels before buying. Election of officers was held and toe new officers—are president, Mrs. Richard Mailand; vice president, Edna Davison; secretary, Helen Lengerich; treasurer, Zula Holloway; publicity chairman, Mrs. Fred Bauman; leaders, Mrs. Clyde Jones and Mrs. Benoit Johnson; alternate leaders, Mrs. Marshall Hilpert and Mrs. Roy Price; health and safety leader, Mrs. Ben McCullough; citizenship leader. Brandberry, 129 N. Sth Street,celebrated her 16th birthday Saturday. She is a sophomore at Decatur high school Minor Accident In City Sunday Night Only one accident occurred in the city during the past weekend, and only minor damage resulted in that mishap. The accident occurred at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, at the intersection of Monroe and Fifth streets. Teresa Janice Lengerich, 27, of 1121 N. Second St., was northbound on Fifth street when the brakes of her auto failed. She was approaching a line of traffic stopped for a red light, and when the brakes of her auto failed to work, she turned the auto to the left to avoid a collision and struck a fire hydrant on the corner. Damage to the car was estimated at $75, while the fire hydrant was not damaged.
