Northwest Cubs Hold First Meet » The Northwest school Cub pack 3063 held its first meeting cf the school year Monday evening in the school gym. Cubmaster Ralph Smith, Jr., read a letter telling the group of a new way to help get boys interested in joining the Cub Scouts. It is called frontier round-up, and will continue until December 20. The plan consists of each Cub Scout inviting a classmate to his den meeting and getting the boys’ parents interested in attending a pack meeting. If the boy joins, the Cub Scout will receive a patch signifying he helped recruit another boy into scouting. Cubmaster Smith introduced Bill Spice, who had just returned from a fall commissioners’ conference. Spice related some very interesting facts that Judge W. O. Hughes of Allen county circuit court gave at the conference. Some of these were, “parents are not concentrating enough on their children’s activities, and not once had he served sentence in juvenile court on a boy who had been a Boy Scout. That as adults and parents we should be ashamed that we don’t have more time for our children in our community. ’ Spice related some startling facts also on “responsibilities in our own community. The fact that three out, of four boys want scouting, but that only one out of four receives it. Why? Because the parents want someone else to lead the boys. That leaves, only a few to do the job. In our schools, den mothers are needed badly if our boys are going to receive the type of scouting necessary to help them. The Boy Scout council cannot do everything. The parents are going to have to help.” , >'■ Spice urges ail parents wife’ young boys to think this responsibility over and if parents have" questions they could contact him or Ralph Smith, Jr. Spice would like for parents signing applications for their boys to enter into cub scouting to read it thoroughly. It states that parents are required to help any time they are called upon. Sunday, November 8, from 1-5 p. m. at Bluffton, the Limberlost leaders will hold a powwow. Entrance fees wilj be 50 cents for each person and each pack will display items of handicraft and work the pack has done. In October there is a trip planned for the Cubs of Northwest school to attend Holiday on Ice in Fort Wayne if tickets can be purchased. Parents and other Children of the cub’s family may purchase tickets through the pack. Mrs. Tom Schlotterback’s den closed with two cheer leading yells for their den 2. The .next pack meeting will be October 26 at 7 p. m. in the school gym.
