DAV HOLDS A SOCIAL MEETING The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary held a social meeting Monday evening at the DAV halj. Plans were completed for the hospital party sponsored by the auxiliary at the Veterans hospital at Fort Wayne, October 8. Games were played and refreshments were served. A business meeeting will be held October 12. DINNER HELD TO CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS Mr. and Mrs. Marlow Schieferstein entertained Monday night with ar family dinner at Preble Gardens in honor of Mrs. Schieferstein’s birthday and also the birthday of her grandson, Jeffrey Lehman. Jeffrey opened his many gifts around a table centered with a “train cake.” Those attending in addition to Mr. and Mrs. Schieferstein and Jeffrey were their children, Norm and Kathy and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lehman, Vicki, Ron, Jan and Amy Jo. The Civic department of the Decatur Woman’s club will hold their first meeting of the season at the I & M building Monday at 7:45 p.m. John Boch will be in charge of the program. There will be a discussion on the post office and a film will be shown. Hostesses for the evening will be the Mesdames Gail Baughman,

Miss Carol Ann DeVine, only daughter of Charles E. DeVine and the late Betty Smith DeVine, route 1, Monroe, and Donald Leroy Lough, son of Mrs. Clifford Norman and the late William Lough, were united in marriage at the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The Rev. Dolar Ritchey officiated the double ring ceremony at the altar decorated with a single vase of white gladioli and carnations. The organist for the occasion was Miss Kathy McKean. Her selections included “Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us,” “The Lord’s STORY HOUR TO BEGIN AT DECATUR LIBRARY The amusing film, “Make Way for Ducklings,” will usher in the story hour season at the children’s department of the Decatur public library Saturday after" noon. What happens when “Peter and Sally Visit the Farm,” as told in the handsomely illustrated pop-up book will also delight the youngsters who attend. In addition, there will be many other stories designed to entertain boys and girls from four through seven years of age. As in the past, the story hour will be held each Saturday from 1:302:30 p. m. Prayer?’ “Hawaiian Wedding Son g,” “O Promise Me, “Because” and "O Perfect Love.” Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a street length dress of white satin brocade which featured a fitted rodice with a scooped neckline and short slevees. Accessories included white satin shoes, white gloves and a single strand of pearls. A crown of seed pearls and crystal tear drops held her shoulder length veil of nylon tulle. She carried a white purple-throated orchid atop a white Bible with rybon streamers. Her maid of honor, Miss Eva Miller, chose a street length dress of metallic gold satin brocade featuring a scooped neckline and a fitted bodice accented by a cummerbund and a large bow in the back. Her headdress was gold netting held by a band of matching satin brocade. She carried a cascade of white pompons frosted with metallic gold. Ronald Johnson served his friend as best man and Daviji Brown seated the guests. The bride’s grandmother wore a flowered green matte jersey dress with matching green and brown accessories. The groom’s mother wore a figured blue jersey with black and white accessories. The bride’s grandmother and the groom’s mother wore identical corsages of white carnations frosted with metallic gold. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church basement for approximately 60 people. The table was centered with a white three tiered wedding cake with pink roses and a miniature bride and groom. Serving at the reception were Mrs. William Hutker, Miss Sandra Lough, sisters of the groom, and Miss Cindy Hurst, cousin of the groom. Mrs. David Brown, aunt of the bride, registered the gifts. Following their weekend trip of unannounced destination, the new Mr. and Mrs. Lough are at home at 521 S .13th street.
WCTU ANNUAL CONVENTION TO BE HELD AT PORTLAND Mrs. Cleo '• Parrish, Fountain City, president of the Womans Christian Temperance Union of Indiana, has announced the an* nual convention of this organization to be held in the First Methodist church in Portland, October 13-15 inclusive. The general theme will be "United Progress ” “Temperance education in church schools” will,be the theme of the pre-convention school to be held October 13. beginning at 10:30 a. m. with Mrs. Harold Smith as leader, assisted by all state directors. A grand diamond speech contest will highlight youth night on Tuesday, conducted by Mrs. Erma Jones. County presidents' and state directors’ dinner will be served Tuesday evening and the convention dinner Wednesday evening. The annual president’s address by Mrs. Parrish will be the special feature of the Wednesday evening program. State officers will be elected Thursday morning, and departmental directors Thursday afternoon. PLEASANT MILLS SCHOOL ORGANIZATION MEETS The Pleasant Mills community school organization met Monday evening for their regular meeting. Jack Bebout, president, called the meeting to order. During the business meeting, plans were made for a fun night be to held October 16 at the school. It will consist of a chili supper, an auction, cake walks and a variety of booths to be set up by the school children, under the direction of the teachers, Don Everett, Mrs* Myrta Koch, Mrs. Reed, Mrs. Mitchell and Miss Clemente. The public is invited to share in the festivities. A. F. Allen, the new school superintendent, was introduced to the group and then spoke briefly. Mrs. Myrta Koch, second and third grade teacher, gave a very interesting talk on her tour of Mexico, while showing her many beautiful slides of her trip. Refreshments were served in the dining room following the meeting by the refreshments committee, Mrs. Richard Cook, and Mrs. Bill Feasel, assisted by Miss Carol Cook and Miss Debbie Feasel. Locals Mr. and Mrs. Amos M. Schwartz of Berne, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Riley of Monroe, Miss Kaihy Donavon of Chattanooga, 0., and Miss EUa Schwartz of Decatur motored to Bluffton, Or; Sunday where they were the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Basinger.
