Visit* in Decatur Max Hohfok, Democratic candidate for oongresu from the fourth district, visited in his home town Thursday following his exceptionally fine job the night before in introducing Sen. Vance Harlke at the Humphrey rally in Fort Wayne. Hobbs did an outstanding job, one to make the people of the fourth district very proud — his speaking form was second only to Sen. Humphrey himself. A typical day in the candidate’s life, Hobbs rose early to visit with the workers at the railroad in Fort Wayne, then at noon addressed some 600 students at St. Francis College, before leaving for several stops in Adams county. At St. Francis, Hobbs asked his opponent some very embarassing questions. He wanted to know why Adair, whose voting record closely parallels Barry Goldwater’s, voted against the St. Lawrence Seaway bill, only to vote in favor of a dam project in Oregon two weeks later. The seaway will benefit this district, but the Oregon dam will not. He also wondered why Adair had voted to recommit the tax cut bill to its committee, which would have killed it, but when that motion failed, he voted for final passage! And why, after promising the Fort Wayne mayor water pollution help in 1962 did he turn around and vote against this help ? And while voting against accelerated public works, feed grain support, international peace corps, area redevelopment, library program, airport aid, etc., etc., why did he suddenly reverse himself, and vote for, of all things, a peanut research center? Not many peanuts are grown in this area! But we did expand our library service under the federal law, we did recover from the last Eisenhower depression by use of the other programs — all voted against by Adair. Hobbs, a prominent Fort Wayne attorney, points time and again to the fact that Adair and Goldwater have parallel records in Congress of voting against necessary measure to keep the United States safe from irresponsible and radical measures. President Johnson is going to be overwhelmingly elected this fall, by all indications. He will need strong young men able to speak up for the needs of Indiana. Max Hobbs, a native of Decatur, an accomplished orator, a thinking,* intelligent gentleman, is the man for the 1960’s to represent the Fourth District in congress. Let’s back,Max’. DHS Journalism Class Provides ‘64 - ‘65 Jacket Journal Staff

This week the first issue of this year's Jacket Journal, the Decatur high school newspaper, was released to a student body already awaiting its appearance. The Journal, which this year will be offered bi-monthly, is the product of the high school's 30 member journalism class. The journalism program, this year being offered for the first time as a full-credit course, has had an enrollment increase of more than one hundred per cent since it was first offered on a three-day-a week basis last year. of the paper, from reporters to circulation department. Taught by John Butler, the course is designed to familarize the students with all phases of newspaper work — reporting, copyreading, editing, advertising, editorial writing, layout and art work. An important objective of the course is introducing each student to the importance of the mass media’s influence on the community. Printed On Offset Last year’s paper was memeographed, but this term s Journal will be printed on a small offset press which the school has acquired. The new press will offer the staff a number of challenging possibilities, including regular use of ' pictures, opportunity to utilize a special masthead or nameplate, and the development of special techniques of draftsmanship and layout. As taught by Butler, the class is a combination lab and workshop. The aspiring journalists alternate between learning theory and procedure from a journalism textboook and gaining experience working on the Jacket Journal. Several field trips have been scheduled for the class members, Last Saturday the group attended a high school journalism seminar at Tri-State college in Angola. Before the year is over they will tour newspaper plants in the area. Some of the photography work for this year’s Journal will probably be done in a darkroom constructed last year at the high school by teacher Lowell Smith. Marilyn Harman, daughter of
