N. Haven Whips Cadets In Fort Wayne Games Three Northeastern Indiana Conference teams competed in the jamboree at Fort Wayne Tuesday evening, as the ’’Whites” beat the “Colors” by 32-20. New Haven, depending NEIC champion, romped to a 20-0 lead over Concordia in one eight minute period, and Central Catholic could score only once in eight minutes against Elmhurst, for a 6-0 "vzin.” Steve Hosier tallied first for New Haven on an eight yard run, and quarterback Gary Lake hit end Steve Sauers with a 12-yard TD pass. Hosier scored again on a 17 yard reverse. In the other “games,” Bishop I.uers whipped South Side, 11-0, ■ and North Side bested Centra), 12-0. Given Jail Term For Intoxication Ira Samuel Carpenter, 62. of 916 Marshall St., is back in the Adams county jail, less than a month after being released from the jail. Carpenter, who completed a sentence for public intoxication on August 11, was returned to jail this morning on another charge of public intoxication. Carpenter was arrested at 3 o'clock Tuesday evening by the city police in the city parkin’ lot on E. Monroe street, and was given another 30-day jail sentence b city uJdge John B. Stults this morning. He was unable to nay his fine of $lO and costs, totaling S3O, and thus will spend 36 days in the local jail. Elgene Bienz, 18-year-old resident of route 5, Decatur, paid a fine on a traffic charge in city court this morning. Bienz was fined the minimum $1 and costs, totaling s2l, on a conviction of a muffler violation levied against him by the city police at 11 o’clock Monday evening on Monroe street. Portland Council Cuts City Budget Die Portland city council Monday night slashed the proposed Portland city tax rate a totil of 43 cents — from $2.90 to The cut brings the total 1965 Portland rate to $7.16, considerably less than the present (1964) rate of $7.52 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation. Budgets pared tbe most were the park and street departments, which were sliced $15,230 and $16,640, respectively. Other budgets cut were the common council, aviation board, police department, fire department, city court, sanitation department, Salamonie river fund. New Patrons Asked To Call Schools Any new people moving into the rural area serviced by North Adams community schools, and who have not yet informed their new school of their arrival and location, should call the school immediately, superintendent Gail M. Grabill warned today. Bus routes are scheduled to pick up all rural children, but if the schools don’t know about new pupils, they cannot schedule stops for them. Those patrons of North Adams who will have pupils in kindergarten are reminded that parents are responsible for picking up the morning group after school at noon, and for bringing in the afternoon group at noon. The school buses will take the youngsters in the morning for morning kindergarten, and bring the afternoon group home.
