Tomatoes seem to be ready all over the county, with signs in view selling them for from five to 10 cents a pound, depending on the area. NFO Headquarters Sign Posted Here NFO activity in Adams county has centered around an information headquarters for farmers operated at Coppess Corners, it was noticed Tuesday. A large sign, invited farmers to stop by for NFO information, was on the roadside. The NFO is trying to raise the price given to farmers by the various markets, and have tried to keep livestock off the market this past week. Success has varied with the market. Gene Stratton Porter Home Part Os Movie An Indiana movie, sponsored by the local business through the state department of commerce and industry was “on site” this morning in Geneva at the home of Gene Stratton Porter. The famous home, now a state memorial, was the scene of one of the parts of the movie, which will be used to promote tourism and industry in the state, and will be circulated throughout the country. Mrs. Lorene Fenstermaker, manager of the home, was hostess for the meeting.
Hansen Hurlers’ Pal; L.A. Hurting Frisco
By FRED DOWN DPI Sports Wrtier Ask Chicago White Sox pitchers to name their best friend and chances are they’ll select a .250-hitter named Ron Hansen. Hansen is the wide-ranging. 26-year-old shortstop from Oxford. Neb., who is the backbone of the classy White Sox’ defense. For that reason alone, Hansen would rate high with Chicago hurlers. But there’s another reason, too, because Hansen is one of those rare 250-hitters who connects in the clutch and drives in key runs. He’s been doing it all season for the White Sox and he’s doing it now in the stretch run of the three-cor-nered American League pennant race. Hansen drove in the winning run for the White Sox for the 12th time this season Tuesday night when Al Lopez’ popgun hitters shaded the Minnesota Twins 1-0 and crept to within one game of the first-place Baltimore Orioles, who bowed to the Cleveland Indians 5-3. The New York Yankees also gained ground on the front-runners with a 4-1 triumph over the Washington Senators. Deals Oriote Blow Hansen, acquired from the Orioles in early 1963, dealth his former team mates' pennant hopes a heavy blow when he singled off Al Worthington with two out in the ninth inning to drive in Jim Landis. Landis and Floyd Robinson had singled off loser Dick Stigman before the right-handed pitching Worthington was brought in to face righty-hitting Hansen. Juan Pizarro pitched a fivehitter and struck out four for the White Sox to win his 17th game — tops in the league. The shutout also was his fourth of the season and the Sox staff’s 16th. The Indians fell on relief ace Harvey Haddix for four hits in two-thirds of an inning — including successive homers by Bob Chance and Leon Wagner —to beat the Orioles for the ningth time in 14 games. Pedro Ramos received credit for his seventh win although Don McMahon shut out the Orioles and fanned three batters in the final two innings. Whitey Ford pitched five-hit ball and struck out seven in eight innings to win his first game for the Yankees since July 15. Mickey Mantle doubled with the bases filled to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the eighth and J„oe Pepitone followed with a two-run single. Claude Osteen suffered his 10th loss for the Senators. Other AL Games The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Kansas City Athletics 5-3 and the Detroit Tigers drubbed the Boston Red Sox 116 in other American League games. Dean Chance went 6-1-3 innings to win his 15th game as Bob Lee’s shutout relief closed out the Angels', victory at Kansas City. The Angels scored all their runs in the fifth inning with the aid Os run-producing hits by Bob Knoop, Albie Pearson and Lou Clinton. W ay n e Causey, Rocky Colavito and Bert Campaneris each had two hits “sor —the Athletics. Don . Demeter’s t h r e e-run homer, Dick McAuliffe’s tworun, round tripper and four hits by Al Kaline paced the Tigers’ 15-hit attack that brought Ed Rakow his seventh win. Dick Stuart, Ed Bressoud and Bob Tillman hit consecutive homers for the Red Sox in the fourth inning. N.L. Results Having already seen to it that there'll be no World Series in Los Ageles this year, the Dodgers are out to make sue there'll be none in San Francisco either. After losing 11 of 14 games to their traditional rivals, the Dodgers turned on the Giants Tuesday night to score a 3-1 victory that dealth San Francisco's waning National League flag hopes a staggering blow. The loss not only prevented the Giants from picking up on the first-place Philadelphia Phillies

—who had lost — but also dropped them into third place behind the persistent Cincinnati Reds, As a result, the Phillies hold fiist place by six games over the Reds and by 6>4 over the Giants. It was a particuarly bitter loss for the Giants because it ruined the return to action of 15-game winner Juan Marichal, who had been sidelined for a month, and also came at the hands of Howie Reed, who won his first major league game for the Kansas City Athletics in 1958 and hadn’t won another one since. Got Relief Help Reed couldn't quite go all the way but Manager Walt Alston called on Ron Perranoski to retire Ron Lanier and Bob Miller to strike out Willie Mays for the final two outs of the game. Marichal, who yielded all three Los Angeles runs and seven hits in five innings, suffered his sixth loss. Tommy Davis led the Dodgers’ 10-hit attack with three hits, including a single that drove in the decisive run in the third inning. The Phillies had given the Giants a chance to gam a full game by dropping a 7-5 decision to the Milwaukee Braves, the Reds whipped the New York Mets 7-2, the St. Louis - Cardinals scored a 7-6 13-mning victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Houston Colts nipped the Chicago Cubs 5-4 in other National League action. Tony Cloninger, with late-in-ning relief help from Billy Hoeft. • completed the cycle of beating every rival at least once as the Braves defeated the Phillies for the second straight time. Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, Joe Torre and Gene Oliver had two hits each to lead the Braves’ 12-hit attack while Frank Thomas, Johnny Callison and Wes Covington homered for the Phillies. Rick Wise suffered his second setback for Philadelphia. Threw Six-Hitter Bob Purkey pitched a six-hit-ter and Frank Robinson and Deron Johnson hit key doubles to lead Cincinnati's nine-hit attack which also was spiced with two singles and a double by Leo Cardenas. Ron Hunt homered for the Mets but it wasn’t enough to save Al Jackson from suffering his 13th loss. Lou Brock homered with one out in the 13th inning to give the Cardinals their victory over the Pirates. Ron Taylor won his seventh game and Al Mcßean lost his second in a 23-hit slugfest in which Roberto Clemente had three hits for the Pirates and Curt Flood had three for the Cardinals. Jim Owens allowed only two hits and a walk over the last 3 2-3 innings to preserve Ken Johnson's 10th win and give the Colts their sixth straight victory. Walt B<jnd had two hits for the Colts and Ron. Santo, Ernie Banks, and Joe Amalfitano had two each for the Cubs.
