The Church Invites You If the moral decline of our nation is to be checked and corrected then the center of community life must be spiritually minded. This is a serious challenge to the churches that the primarily social and philanthropic. If the churches merely carry on the same kind of program as social organizations then it has missed its unique role. Long years ago Jesus insisted vehemently on the primacy of the kingdom of God and saw clearly and so indicated that reliigon must undergird morality, that ethics are empty without the sustaning spiritual force which was God’s purpose for the world. Your consistent attendance at services of worship can help the church fulfill its unique role. WHY NOT ACCEPT THE INVITATION AND COME TO CHURCH NEXT SUNDAY? CHURCH FORUM . WHAT ARE SOME BASIC DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CHRISTIANITY AND COMMUNISM. Dr. Robert W. Youngs of Wichita, Kansas suggests the following differences: Communism is materialistic; Cbristianlty is spiritual. Communism is political; Christianity is personal. Communism i s collective; Christianity is a fellowship. Communism is enforced; Christianity is voluntary. Communism divides and conquers; Christianity unites and wins. Communism shares by taking; Christianity shares by giving. Commuhism teaches the love of power; Christianity teaches the power of love. Communism believes that the noblest end Justifies the worst means; Christianity believes that only the noblest means produce the noblest ends. WHAT KIND OF A CHURCH MEMBER ARE YOU? In the calendar of the Grace Brethren church of Fort Lauderdale, Florida this question is answered as follows: Some church members are like wheelbarrows—no good unless pushed. Some are like canoes—they need to be paddled. Some are like kites — if you don’t keep a string on them, they fly away and then crash. Some are like kittens they are more contented when petted. Some are like footballs — you can’t tell which way they will bounce next. Some are like balloons — full of wind and ready to blow up. Some are like trailers — they have to be pulled. Some are like advertising signs — they keep going on and off. And some are like a good watch—pur gold, open face, busy hands and full of good works. I I Wlsdomra “All who would like to go to heaven hold up your hand” said the Sunday school teacher to her class of small children. All but one little boy eagerly raised their hands. “Johnny” asked the teacher anxiously, “don’t you want to go to heaven?” “I can’t, said Johnny, “ ’cause Momma and Daddy told me to come right home after Sunday school."

Ten bellringers from England flew to Washington D.C. to peal the new bells installed in the Gloria in Excelsis tower of the National Protestant Episcopal Cathedral there. The bells were cast in the famous Whitechapel foundry in London and the English ringers stayed in Washington for a week to train local bell ringers. A serious new obstacle has been raised to the baptism of new Christians in mainland China according to information received by the Board of Missions of the Methodist church. The board reported that the name of the candidate for baptism must be sent to the Office of Religious Affairs where it is checked against the lists of landowners, counter - revolutionaries and others. After that the pastor must guarantee that the candidate will not do anything against the government after he is baptized. Pastors are hesitant to accept the responsibility for baptism.

THE BETTER WAY Life without reverence and discipline is wasted. We must have a rule, a guide, a purpose to which we will subject all else. When we try to find out the forces and temptations that lead up astray we find two dominant reasons — the selfish desire to go our own way and our failure to accept God as our guide. It is important to re-emphasize the fact that we have a rich religious heritage from our forefathers. We cannot be religious by simply adopting their religion or their reliogius ideas, but we do have a precious foundation in their experience to build a faith of our own. Tryly religion has three tenses, past, present and future.
