Stop The “Musical Bank” Game The Republican state treasurer Robert Hughes has made such a mockery of the office of treasurer of state, shifting state funds at whim from areas that voted against him for the Republican nomination for governor, that it certainly casts grave doubts on the ability of Republicans tdPgovern in Indiana. Hughes, in attempting to buy the governor’s nomination in the Republican party, pulled all stops, and has ruthlessly shifted state money in the biggest “musical chairs" game in Hoosier history. The Democrats, meanwhile, have nominated Jack L. New, of Greenfield, to run as state treasurer. New has a small office furniture business, and in addition has been a close confident of Democratic governors Matthew E. Welsh and Henry F. Schricker, as well as Bloomfield publisher John Watkins. He traveled with all three during their governor campaigns. New knows Hoosiers, Hoosier politics, business and banking. An IU graduate, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta, he is one of the most Intelligent and alert young men in Indiana politics today. Conscientious and typically small-town Connervative by nature. New combines acumen and knowledge with traditional Hoosier qualities, and give every indication that he would be a superb administrator, fair and conscientious, as treasurer of state. ’ « • „ Contrasted with the Republican record of skulduggery, scheming, and power politics, New presents a clean, polished image of an intelligent, thoughtful businessman. He is the type we badly need in office in Indiana. We recommend him highly. The Republican record thia past four years merits a strong rebuff by the voters thia fall. Remember the callous use of public funds by trusted officials when you vote, and sweep the house clean of those who would use public office for private gain. Support New; Judge G. Remy Bierly, and the entire Democratic ticket if you want good clean government in Indiana. Editorial Written by Dick Heler
