Framing this young miss as she checks to see what’s going on outdoors are stylish shutters of Masonite filigree hardboard in interesting cloverleaf design. An easy do-it-yourself project, the shutters were made by fitting the lacework panels into matching, factory-cut moldings, painting, and hinging to window frames. The shutters, which let through diffused light and air when closed, add a tasteful touch to decor of child’s bedroom here but are equally at home in other rooms.

Colorful Wall Can Be Used In Bedroom Even in a bedroom you can be bold with color if you limit the vivid accent to the wan behind the bed. Tere a bright color enlivens the room by day, but it is out of sight at night. One interesting new color in the line of Marlite paneling — Hawaiian coral — is ideal for this type of bedroom installation. The coral hue is warm and gives the room a new atmosphere. This color also is ideal as a background for interesting accessories, such as an eye-catching plant or Oriental screenHawaiian coral comes in either 16”x8’ planks or four - foot wide panels. Both types, of course, have the washable Marlite finish that will withstand years of hard wear. A wide range of neutral colors in the line can be used on adjacent bedroom walls to complete the bedroom decor. Resilience of Oak Floors Big Factor In Popularity Women are in revolt against rock-hard floors, according to opinions sampled by a leading women’s magazine. Buyer resisttance to unyielding concrete slab floors has been noted in many areas. Most homemakers favor floors of oak, which offer resilience as well as beauty and ease of upkeep. Another factor in the preference is the added resale value which oak floors give a home. ' e
Inside Shifters | Take Windows Out of Ordinary Windows can be an eye-catch-ing center of interest and a tasteful complement to room decor in the hands of an imaginative housewife or her creative husband. Elegant draperies, colorful curtains, and distinctive cornices and valances all are ways in which you can dress up windows to make them more than * just glassed-in holes in the walls, decorators point out. One of the newest window treatments gaining rapidly in popularity is the use of inside window shutters. Actually, such shutters aren’t new at all, but there is a bright, new look to their old-fashioned charm. The new look is provided by a Masonite filigreed hardboard material which enables even the- amatuer do-it-yourselfer to create his own stylish shutters for any room in the house These peek-through shutters can be full window length or used to cover the lower sash only, with curtains at the top. Closed, the shutters let through diffused light and, in the summer time, breezes. When open; .they frame the window with an interesting design. The Masonite filigree panels, available in unusual cloverleaf and lacework diamond patterns, fit readily into matching moldings precesion cut at the factory, making it easy on the do-it-yourselfer. Primed and painted on both sides, the shutters ca n be a striking contrast aocent or a de-cor-matching highlight of the room. They are hinged to the window framework to complete the job. The smooth, durable hardboard material is available at lumber and building supply dealers. Becorating Booklet Ving Smith, famous New York decorating authority, shows homeowners how to use their own ideas to achieve professional results in a new 24-page booklet. Full color illustrations are used throughout this bright, interesting guide. Each room setting in the booklet combines good looks and easy maintenance. Plastic - finished Marlite paneling, which can be damp-wiped clean, is specified for easy-to-maintain walls and ceilings. To obtain a copy of Ving Smith’s professional guide to room planning and interior decoration, send 25c to the Home Service Bureau, P. O. Box 652, Dover, Ohio.
