Mystery Surrounds Deaths Os Couple LOS ANGELES (UPI) — Mystery today surrounded the death of an Altadena, Calif., chemist whose wife, a doctor, was found drowned in the family bathtub, just one day previously. The deaths of Dr. Marion W. Rigg, 46, and his wife, Dr. Marilyn L. Rigg, 38, orphaned their children, John, 7, Richard, 9, James, 11, and Leslie, 10. Mrs. Rigg, crippled by polio since 1957, was found dead in the bathtub Monday morning by her husband. Several hours later his car struck a stopped school bus in nearby La Crescenta. Rigg appeared to be intoxicated so sheriff’s deputies took him 4 to the Montrose sheriff’s station although nobody cm the bus was hurt At the station, Rigg appeared to be semiconscious so deputies took him to Glendale Hospital. Subsequently he was transferred to County General Hospital, where he died Tuesday morning. Authorities said the cause of Rigg’s death was “undetermined pending toxicological tests, but he did take something, some unknown substance. It was apparent suicide on his part.” Coroner's deputies believed Mrs. Rigg drowned. Authorities said Rigg told them his wife had been drinking and he had carried her into the bathroom and set her in the tub for a bath. He then returned an hour or so later and found her dead. Sheriff’s homicide detectives said Mrs. Rigg had “a slight, superficial bruise oh her forehead, but the coroner found no trauma and there was no sign of a struggle in the bathroom.” Detectives said they made a thorough investigation at the Rigg home and found no clues to the cause of the couple’s death. The couple “appeared very happy,’’ detectives said. Relatives were reported caring for the children.
