7,C00 RCA Workers Are Hied By Strike By I’aMed Press tatoraataeaal About 7.000 Radio Corporation of America workers in Bloomington and Marion were idle today in contract disputes. Involved were about 5.200 workers at Bloomington, where color television sets are made, and nearly 2.000 at Marion, where television tubes are made for RCA sets. The strike at Bloomington began Thursday when about 125 production workers set up picket lines. Other workers honored the lines, but office personnel and supervisory employes went through plant gates. At Bloomington, both union and company officials called it an unauthorized work stoppage. Contract negotiations continued. The old contract expired May 28 and was extended on a day-to-day basis. Workers complained that management and officers of Local 1424 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers "keep dickering and won't teU us anything.” Some also said they had no "substantial" wage increase in five years. At Marion, the second walkout this week at RCA began on the third swing shift shortly before midnight, also in a contract dispute. There, too. picket lines were set up and all production was halted.

Crown Point Youths Hike Through City The warm weather months of June and July bring many things. Such as swimming, fishing, boating, vacations, etc. But in recent years these months have a new attraction — hiking. And the trips seem to be getting a little longer with each year! For an example, a “little” jaunt from Crown Point, to Greenville, O. The season’s first hikers —for Decatur at least — slowly wandered off 13th street east on Monroe street, and then south on Second street a short time before noon today. John Schafer, 15, and Gary Paarlberg, 16, both residents of the northwestern Indiana city of Crown Point, stopped for a short time at Second and Monroe streets to talk, and then continued on their way. Destination, Greenville, O. Started Tuesday The young men left Crown Point Tuesday morning, with packs on their back, canteens at their side, and also carrying the other essentials of modern-day hiking. They admitted to “sloughing off” about 100 miles from home and getting a ride for a short distance. But most of the trip to Decatur had been via the foot method. Schafer and Paarlberg, who spend their nights sleeping under the stars, both agreed that once they reach their destination, such foolishness as hiking will probably be at an end for them. They are traveling to see Schafer's sister, Mrs. William Hoffman, in the Ohio city of Greenville, and were planning — at least hoping — to reach her home and some welcome rest, sometime Saturday. While—this—may—be—their-lasL such hike, Schafer and Paarlberg have set an unofficial record of plus-200 miles for hikers who have traveled through this city.

Driver Uninjured As Truck Wrecked A Hammond truck driver escaped injury Thursday afternoon /Mien his. truck overturned on U. S. 27, about a tenth of a mile south of Cojlpess Corner. Richard C. Foreman, who was returning to Hammond after delivering a trailer for Magnolia Mobile Homes, walked away from the wreckage after his truck flipped end over end and “broke” into three pieces during the somersaulting. Foreman was driving the empty trailer north when apparently the brakes of the vehicle locked. The truck went off the side of the road, into the ditch, and flipped end over end. By the time the truck came to rest, the cab, the engine and the rest of the vehicle had landed in three separate places. Foreman, however, was not hurt. State trooper Gene Rash and sheriff Roger Singleton investigated, and considered the vehicle a total wreck.
