Negro Girl Is Admitted To U. Os Alabama By United Press International Josephine Powell, one of two Negroes to be graduated wlth- . out Incident Sunday at previously , all-white West End High School in Birmingham, Ala., has been admitted to the University of Alabama, it was reported Sunday night. The Birmingham Post-Herald said it had learned from the girl’s attorney that she has been accepted by the university for the fall term. Jefferson Bennett, administrative vice president of the university, said it was the school’s policy not to comment on “anyone else’s”", statements concerning applications or students. Miss Powell’s attorney, Oscar Adams Jr., will hold a news conference this week on her future plans, according to the girl’s mother, Mrs. Clarence Powell, j The university admitted two Negroes last June under federal court order, Gov. George Wallace attempted to block their entrance by “standing in the school house door.” However, the Negroes, Vivian Malone and James Hood, were admitted after National Guardsmen were federalized. Hood later dropped out. Miss Malone is still attending the school. Graduating with Miss Powell at West End High Sunday was Patricia Marcus. A Negro boy, Ricard Walker, graduated from Ramsay High, another previously all-white school. Elsewhere: Jacksonville, Fla: Negro leaders planned federal court action today to erase a civil rights demonstration ban in St. Augustine imposed Thursday after a series of clashes between whites and Negroes that sent two persons to a hospital. Dallas, Tex.: Negroes and whites demonstrated at a downtown cafeteria Sunday for the second consecutive day. They left when police told them they were violating a city ordinance. Most downtown hotels and restaurants in Dallas are integratod NEW YORK: Integration leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., said in a radio interview Sunday that he will ask President Johnson to veto the civil rights bill if it is watered down by crippling amendments.
