PLEASANT MILLS GROUP MEETS MONDAY NIGHT The Pleashnt Mills community organization met Monday evening for its regular meeting. Jack Bebout, president, called the meeting to order. Several items of business were presented to the group. These included the newly proposed 50c tax levy for an accumulative building fund for the Adams Central school district. The board will vote June 9 on this measure. Refreshments of cookies and coffee were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Richard Cook, Mrs. Herman Lyons and Mrs. Bill Feasel. XI ALPHA XI HOLDS FINAL SOCIAL The closing social meeting of the Xi Alpha Xi chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Mrs. A. J. Reichert in Fort Wayne. A delicious luncheon was served at tables decorated with each place marked with a small potted plant given as favors. Mrs. La Velle Death assisted Mrs. Reichert with the luncheon. Bridge was played and gifts ,Wre given to Mrs. William Af- ' folder and Mrs. Frank Crist. VALPO GUILD ITO MEET Because of illness, the speaker who was scheduled for the June 9 meeting of the Decatur chapter of the Valparaiso guild is unable to attend. Instead the group will meet at Immanuel in Union township for a pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m., June 2. Newly elected officers will be installed at this time. Herman Krueckeberg, well known in the Decatur area, will show slides taken on his recent trip to Europe.

BOYETTES HOLD MAY MEETING Fourteen Soyettes recently held their May meeting in the coffee shop of the Central Soya main office. Refreshments were served at the beginning of the meeting. The business meeting was then conducted by the president, Mrs. Dale Whetstone. A nominating committee was appointed and it was decided to have the election of officers at the June meeting. Crazy bridge was then enjoyed by the members and Mrs. L|verl Sharpe, Miss Virginia Laurent and Mrs. Robert Ga s e won prizes. Mrs. Jerome Keller was the chairman of this delightful May party. Mrs. Pauline Heffner and Miss Virginia Laurent are the cochairmen for the June meeting, which will be a picnic. Births At the Adams county memorial hospital: Larry W. and Sharon Baumgartner Myer, route 1, Monroe, are the parents of an 8 lb., 1 oz., baby girl born at 1:84 p.m. Wednesday. A 7 lb., 13% oz., baby boy was born to William and Ruth Grove Harvey route 4, at 7:55 p.m., Wednesday. GIRL SCOUTS < Troop 452 Troop 452 met for the last time this year. Troop 357 and Troop 452 hiked out to Hanna-Nuttman park. Following the hike, a flag ceremony was observed. The third grade girls received their wings. Hie leaders treated the girls. OPPORTUNITY SCHOOL - HOLDS SUPPER The Vera Cruz opportunity school held Its annual supper Monday evening at the Bluffton 4-H building, with 178 in attendance. A group of Cub Scouts from the Baptist church in Bluffton presented an interesting puppet show, which was followed by a program by the students. They presented a rhythm band, with popular, spiritual, religious, and patriotic numbers. A group of four students with wigs and instruments imitated the “Beatles.” ’ I* ,'tMrs. Al Liby, principal, gave awards to those with perfect attendance. The three from Adams county were Charles Razo, Steve Shaffer and Tom Hildebrand. She gave diplomas to the three graduating seniors, who Dorris Millington, Diane Fosnaugh and Bill Thomas. Mrs. Louis Ross spoke in behalf of the graduates and the future of the students. Mrs. Max Fosnaugh, president, thanked all who had helped her while she was president. She announced the senior class of Bluffton had cleaned the school yard. Following the introduction of the .coming years officers, Mrs. Fosnaugh was presented a gift of a lighted picture from the parents and teachers. The August supper will be held at the school in the new building.
JOLLY HOUSEWIVES HOLD MEETING The Jolly Housewives home demonstration club met Tuesday evening at the Pleasant Mills school, with 20 members present. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Leland Ray, and Mrs. Richard Mailand, gave a reading on “Home and a Memorial.” Mrs. Thomas Sheehan gave the history of the song of the month, followed by the group singing “Old Sweet Song.” Roll call was answered by “What I did that aggravated mother most.” A report was given on a recent rummage sale. Mrs. May Tope gave an interesting lesson on “Food FactM and Fallacies. The county picnic will be held June 25 at 6:30 p. tn. at the 4-H grounds. Those wh& attend are to bring their own table service and a covered dish. The- next meeting, a picnic at Hanna.Nuttman park,* will be June 30. The meeting was closed by singing the dub prayer. Hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. Richard Mailand, Mrs. Robert Bowen, Mrs. Henry Galltff and Mrs. Fred Bauman. TRI KAPPA MEETS TUESDAY EVENING The Alpha Sigma chapter of Tri Kappa met at the home of~ Mrs. Carl Faurote Tuesday evening. Mrs. John Brecht, Mrs. Simeon Hain, and Mrs. Roger Schuster will attend the province convention June 3 at Wabash. An auction was held of homemade artides made by the members. Mrs. Gerald Strickler served as the auctioneer. The door prize was won by Mrs. Simeon Hain. Refreshments were served from a beautifully decorated table by the hostess, Mrs. Faurote. Parents of the couple and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hamilton, and Mr. and Mrs. W ll * 11am R. Lose. Mrs. John Girard played a number of traditional selections on the organ. Miss Lose, given by her father in marriage, chose a pale yellow suit with a matching veil of tulla caught to a rose of yellow satin. She wore an orchid corsage. ' Mrs. Dale Burkhart served as matron of honor and was attired in a light blue suit with matching accessories. She wore a corsage of pink carnations. Dale Burkhart served as best man. , For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Lose wore a two-piece beige brocade dress with matching accessories and a corsage of red roses. Mrs. Hamilton chose a black eyelet dress with white accessories and a corsage of red roses. Immediately following ti}e ceremony, a reception was held at fte home of the bride’s parents. The bride is a graduate of Decatur Catholic high school and attended Ball State Teachers College. The groom is a graduate of Adams Central high school and is employed at the International Harvester Co. and Mcßride’s Welding Co. The couple will reside at 518 Mercer avenue.

OFFICERS INSTALLED BY DELTA THETA TAU The Omicrqn chapter of Delta Theta Tau held its installation of officers and dinner meeting at the Preble Gardens Tuesday evening. Miss Rose Mary Spangler was the installing officer. The following were installed: Mrs. John president; Mrs. John A. Baumann, vice president; Mrs. Wilmer Bultemeier, secretary; Mrs, Don Middendorf, treasurer; Mrs. Alvin Rauch, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Mel Weisman, historian. Mrs. McConaha appointed Mrs. Lyle Mallonle pledge supervisor and Mrs. Henry Neireiter, publicity. The tables for the 6:30 dinner were beautifully decorated with individual potted petunias in lovely colors. James Newton and Mrs. James Newton and Mrs. Leland Smith were specially recognized for their 29 years at Delta. Miss Spangler, Miss Mary Catherine Spangler and Mrs. Alvin Rauch were the committee for arranging this meeting. At the business meeting Mrs. McConaha presided. She will be the representative to the international convention of Delta Theta Tau in Denver, Colo., July 14-18. She will attend the golden anniversary celebration of Xi chapter of Portland June 10. Mrs. McConaha is a former member of that chapter. The next meeting will be June 9 at the home of Mrs. Jerry Bixler. The closing meeting will be June 23 with a picnic and guest night. Locals Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Shoaf of Pinnellas Park, Fla., arrived this week to spend the summer with her sister, Mrs. Roy Shoaf of route 6, and other relatives and friends. Jerry L. Mclntosh entered Parkview memorial hospital in Fort Wayne Wednesday, where he underwent nasal surgery. He will remain there until Sunday evening. His room number is 330. Mr. and Mrs. William Lose, Jr., have received the following address from their son: Pvt. Philip Lose, RA16791052, 19th APU, APO 301, San Francisco, Cal. Mrs. Carl (Ruth) Daniels, former Decatur resident, will leave Chicago Monday afternoon by jet plane for Tokyo, Japan, where she will visit her Air Corps son and family. The plane will touch down in Anchorage, Alaska, and is due in Tokyo, Tuesday might. The return flight will be via Hawaii, and Mrs. Danykj will wat a few days' tSere before returning to Larry Lee Doherty, 12, of Geneva, is reported in satisfactory condition in the Jay county hospital after being nearly elecrocuted. Tuesday while working on the Hardison ditch; the crane he operated hit a live wire. French township farmer Melvin M. Hirschy is reported still in great pain despite heavy, sedation following his fall from tflte roof of his barn Monday while extinguishing a fire. He suffered several crushed vertebrae in his back. Bill Hirschy, 18-y ear-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Hirschy and a 1964 Adams Central graduate, is recovering from a badly mutilated finger on his right hand which was pinched Monday while changing a tire at the Zurcher Firestone station in Monroe.
