Concordia Cadets Whip Jackets In NEIC Game
The Concordia Cadets wore their hitting clothes to Decatur Thursday evening, as they pounded out 15 hits, including a pair of home runs, to romp to a 15-4 win over the Decatur Yellow Jackets in a wild and wooly battle under the Worthman Field arcs. The Cadets, shut out on four hits for 10 innings by the Commodores’ Terry Myers on the same diamond a week ago, apparently brought some new bats with them as they jumped on all-NEIC hurler Denny Cookson in the first inning last night and never let up. For the Yellow Jackets, it was one of those evenings when nothing went right. Normally a very strong defensive club, the Jackets committed 10 miscues in the field .slightly less than their entire total for the first eight games. After a 10-ron Concordia blitz in the third frame, the Jackets were trailing 12-2 but were starting to kick up a fuss of their own in their half of the inning. One run was in and the bases were loaded with no outs when Cookson blasted a ball high and deep to center field. Triple May The Jacket baserunners were off and running but Pressler, Cadet centerfielder, fell on his back in deep center and apparently caught the ball. He was so deep that no one could say for sure, but the base umpire ruled he caught the ball and the throw to the infield produced a triple play. Arguments followed, but to no avail. The Cadets jumped on Cookson for a pair of tallies the first time they batted. T. Ahlmeyer walked, McLeish and Hofmann each doubled and Wilcoxson singled. The Jackets got one back in the second inning when Cookson drew a walk and sophomore Gary Busse blasted a double to left center, scoring Cookson. But then it hapepned. The Cadets, pounding the ball*hard, poked six hits in the third inning, including a home run by R. Ahlmeyer, and the Jackets contributed seven errors, when the smoke cleared, Concordia was holding a comfortable 12 to 1 ■ lead. ' Second Home Run . Pressler's home run with a mate aboard in the sixth hiked the lead to 14-2, and Cadets added a final tally in the seventh. The Jackets 'got their last two runs in the sixth when Busse pounded out his second double and Jerry Egly and Jerry Conrad followed with singles. •o The defeat was the first in three NEIC outings for the Jackets and the only one they can afford if they are to repeat as
