New Wheat Program The new 1964 wheat diversion program, to increase farm income and still maintain an adequate supply of wheat, was discussed Tuesday in Adams county by Robert Green, a member of the state ASCS committee, and brother of governor candidate Clint Green. The program also maintains a fair consumer price and at the same time holds down the production of wheat. Mr. Green stressed the fact that the wheat program is a voluntary program. In order to receive certificate payments, a wheat producer must sign an application to participate in the program on or before May 15, 1964. He urged all producers who had planted wheat within 2 or three acres of their allotment to call at the .ASCS office to determine what participation in the program could do for them. Advising farmers that each individual farm is different, and the only way to be sure is to go to the office. Certificate payments are computed on 90 percent of the normal yield established for the farm and will be paid to participants of the program regardless of the number of bushels of wheat harvested, whether actual production is more than less the yield established. In many instances, a producer may receive a very high payment per acre by diverting a few acres. In closing, Mr. Green urged all wheat producers to tell their neighbors to contact the county office before the deadline date. Editorial written by Heller
