JOINT RALLY HELD BY LUTHERAN GROUPS The Lutheran Women’s Missionary. League and the Lutheran Laymen’s League of the Decatur Zone held a joint rally at the St. John’s Lutheran church (Flatrock) Sunday evening. Devotions were given by the host pastor, Rev. Donald E. Frank. Rev. Otto A. Mueller, advisory pastor for the LWML, introduced the guest speaker, Rev. Julius Acker, pastor at Hammond. His topic was “Strange Altars.” He pointed out why a Lutheran can not be a true Lutheran and yet be a member of the Masonic lodge. He pointed out the time may change their order of rituals which would enable a Lutheran to become a lodge member. In fact he said they are working very hard at it at present time. A period of question and answer followed. Rev. Frank gave closing devotions and the ladies adjourned to the church basement for a separate business meeting. The president, Mrs. Donald Heck, brought*the meeting to order. Rev Mueller gave devotions. Roll call followed. The minutes of the previous rally were read, and a treasurer’s report was given. a bus to attend the district convention to be held in Cincinnati, Ohio, this year, July 15,16, and 17. Mrs. Herman Krueckeberg, president of the central district, announced that a workshop will be held July 15 and she hopes all delegates and guests will avail themselves to this important and inspiring meeting. The group closed’ the meeting by repeating the Lord’s Prayer in unison. Herbert Witte conducted the business meeting for the LLL. He stated that Richard Doty will receive the scholarship offered by the LLL to Valparaiso University. Richard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Doty. The following were elected to office: Donald Hoile, president, Hoagland; Richard Franz, vice president, Monroeville; Delmar Franke, secretary, Monroeville; Elmer Bultemeier, treasurer, Decatur. After the meeting the men adjourned to the church basement and joined the ladies for a light lunch. The Pleasant Mills MYF will hold a bake sale on the church lawn Saturday from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.

CELEBRATES FIRST BIRTHDAY AT PARTY Bradley Gene Hartman, son of Mr. and Mrs. David A. Hartman celebrated his first brithday April 30. Refreshments of ham salad sandwiches, potato chips, ice cream, cake, and punch were served to the following: Bradley’s great grandmother, Mrs. Clara Becher; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Longsworth and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hartman; and his aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Becher, Jr., Amy Jo and Audrey Ann; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lobsiger; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Neuenschwander; Steve, Charles, Dan, Delaine, Raymond and Mary Jo Hartman and Joe, Gloria, Linda, Rita, Dennis, and Dwight Longsworth. * MOTHER-DAUGHTER BANQUET IS HELD A mother and daughter banquet_ was given by the ladies of the St. Paul Missionary church Ladies Aid at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harden, 922 W. Monroe street Thursday nighk Sixty two mothers and daughters responded to the invitations with Mrs. Charles Shoaf as co-hostess. A delicious ham supper, complemented by relishes, nut cups, cracker snacks, and pumpkin pie was served at the tables. Artifical flowers circled around candles and African violets decorated the tables. Mrs. Robert Welch led in prayer before the meal. During the time of fellowship which followed, Mrs. Arnold Martin read “Tribute to My Mother.” “Challenge to my Daughter,” was read by Mrs. Richard Martin. Mrs. Frank Aurand was the oldest mother present. Mrs. Harden had the most daughters, and Mrs. Eddie Reynolds of Fort Wayne came the farthest. Mrs. Tom Noll also was recognized, as well as older mothens unable to be present. These were sent Mother’s day cards signed by all present. All these persons were given the flowers that were used as table decorations. “A Mother’s Prayer for Herself,” was read by Mrs. Ocie Durr, and “A Prayer for My Daughter,” was read by Mrs. Roger Longenberger. Mrs. Dwight Schnepp read a poem, “A Mother’s Joy,” and Misis Sharon Harden sang “Mother,” accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Richard Martin. Mrs. Lyle Franz closed the devotions with prayer. MONROE WCTU MEETS AT NUSSBAUM HOME The Monroe WCTU met at the home of Mrs. James Nussbaum. The group sang “Under the Atoning Blood.” Mns.Homer Winteregg gave devotions entitled “Little Old Lady.” A vocal duet was sung by Mrs. James Nussbaum and daughter, Joni, with Mrs. Homer Winteregg at the piano. Business was conducted by the president, Mrs. Jack Mcßride. The treasurer’s report was given by Mrs. John Gage. A leaflet entitled “Open Door Needs Screens” was read by Mrs. Fosnaugh. A reading was given by Mrs. Raymond Crist on “Flowers and Missions.” “Satellites and Missiles” was given by Mrs. Naomi Andrews and a leaflet on “Gambling” was read by Mrs. John Gage. Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Shoaf, route 6, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Kathleen Ann, to John S. Frey, son of Mrs. Fern Frey, 521 S. 13th street, and the late Carl Frey. Miss Shoaf is a graduate of Decatur high school and is employed by the First State Bank of Decatur. Her fiance is a graduate of Pleasant Mills high school, is employed by International Harvester company, and is presently serving with the Indiana Air National Guard. The final meeting of the Junior Arts department of the Decatur Woman’s club was. held Monday evening at the home of Miss Sharon Sutton. The. rpinutes were read and approved, and the treasurer reported a balance of $4.62. Mrs. Arnold, the drama advisor, and her husband presented the program. They gave a dramatic reading about a potter and his work which symbolized God and man. This allegory depicted ‘the significance of forgiving love. It was announced that Mrs. Arnold will be the general advisor for the club next year. The following officers were elected: president, Jackie Baker; vice president, Kathy Mallonee; secretary, Carol Cook; and treasurer, Jane Jacobs. Delicious refreshments of cake, punch, and nuts were served by the hostess Sharon Sutton and her assisting committee; Becky Rumple, chairman, Susie l Smith, Donnalu Kiesis, Kathy Walters, Pat Collins, Donna Burk, and Charlotte Gephart. The Pythian Sisters Needle club will meet Monday after Temple at 7:30 p.m. at the Moose home. Mrs. Fred Fruchte and Mrs. Bruce Christen will serve as hostesses. The Ruth circle of the Decatur EUB church will meet with Mrs. William Dellinger Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Vernon Custer will be the leader for the evening.

HONORED GUESTS AT FAREWELL DINNER Mr, and Mrs. Harry Dailey were the honored guests at a farewell dinner which was held Sunday noon in the Methodist church din- , ing room, by the Wesley class. Each table was decorated with a Centerpiece made up with spring flowers. Fifty members and their families enjoyed the delicious carry-in dinner. Following the dinner, Mrs. Kathryn Helm presented to Mr. and Mrs: Dailey the book entitled, “Beyond Ourselves,” a gift from the Wesley class. Each member present autographed the book. The American Legion auxiliary fourth district meeting will be held at the Legion home in Wolcottville, May 14. Wolcottville Unit 110 will be the hostess unit. Reservations must be in by May 11. They should be sent to Margaret Conley, Rome City. Those from the Decatur unit who want to go, call Mrs. Walter Walchle or Mrs. Frank Liniger. The St. John’s Ladies Aid of Flatrock will sponsor a rummage sale. May 15 and 16 at 9 a.m. in the McConnell building. Driver Is Arrested On Speeding Charge Juan Garza Rodriquez, 17-year-old Fort Wayne resident, was arrested by the city police on a speeding charge early this morning. Rodriquez was charged with traveling 45 miles an hour in a 30 mile an hour zone at 12:15 a.m. today on 13th street. He was cited to appear in justice of the Peace court Thursday to answer to the charge.
