Mr. and Mrs. Merritt J. Alger announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Caroline, to Richard A. Olson, son of Mrs. Alfred J. Olson, of Long Lake, 111., and the late Mr. Olson. Miss Alger is a graduate of Decatur high school. She received her bachelor of arts degree in- education from North Central College, Naperville, 111., and her master of science degree in ducation from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, 111. Miss Alger is, presently teaching second grade in Hinsdale, 111. Her fiance received his bachelor of science degree in business administration from Culver-Stockton College; Canton, Miss., and is a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He is employed by Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc., Chicago, 111. The wedding will take place August 8 at the Union church in Hinsdale, 111.

The rest of the evening was spent in cutting out religious Christmas cards and Sunday school pictures to be given to missionaries. Mrs. Warren Kneuss and Mrs. Paul Rolston served refreshments to those present. The May 28 meeting will be the mother-daughter banquet at the Palmer House, at 6:30 p.m. GIRL SCOUTS Troop 377 Troop 377 met in the basement of the Presbyterian church Thursday. Locals Mrs. Carol Fraze, of Geneva, has been dismissed from the Jay county hospital in Portland. Michael Ellenberger, 24. of Decatur, was charged in Van Wert city court with an assured clear distance violation, and pleaded no contest through attorney Robert Koch. The case was continued for trial assignment. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Robinson returned home Friday from Toronto, Canada, where they attended the 49th cereal chemists convention at the Royal York hotel. Enroute home they visited at Toledo, 0., with Mrs. Robinson’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Roop. WOMEN OF MOOSE TO ELECT OFFICERS The Women of the Moose met at the Moose home Thursday evening with senior regent, Mrs. Charles Haney, presiding. The slate of officers was read with election of officers to be held at the May 28 meeting. The next meeting, May 14, will be formal enrollment honoring charter members in celebration of the rrien’s golden anniversary. Visiting chapters participating will be Bluffton, Fort Wayne, Portland, Hartford City, and Van Wert, Ohio; The Decatur chapter of the Women of the Moose went to Bluffton April 22 to help that chapter celebrate the remodeling of their Moose home. Chapters participating other than Decatur were Fort Wayne, Portland, and Hartford City. They have two charter members, Mrs. Dertha Huss and Mrs. Bessie Colchin of Decatur. Mrs. Huss was unable to attend. Attending from Decatur were the Mesdames Herbert Fravel, Dora Cook, Charlotte Marbach, Anna Myers, Al Schneider, Agnes Kable and Charles Haney. Entertain Daughters The Women of the Moose held their mother-daughter banquet for approximately 100 members, daughters or guests Sunday evening. A delicious chicken dinner was prepared and served by the men. Mrs. Ed Rice provided the dinner music at the organ. The tables were beutifully decorated by Mrs. Al Schneider, and potted geraniums were given to several deserving mothers. Several members of the Fort Wayne obedience club brought their dogs and gave a demonstration which was enjoyed by the group. Jerry Gehrig arranged to have them present this part of the program. Girl Scouts Register Next Week For Camp Girl Scout registration for Camp Ella J. Logan will be open from noon Monday through May 10, Mrs. Perry K. Zahn, chairman, announced today. 'Registration should be mailed to Limberlost Girl Scout council, 227 E. Washington, Fort Wayne, and will be processed according to earliest postmark. Those qualifying are registered as follows: juniors, 10 years of age by June 22, 1964; also all Cadettes and senior scouts. Dates for the sessions are as follows: June 22-July 3; July 6-July 17; July 20-July 31; August 3-14. Clarence Ziner Named Association Officer Clarence Ziner, head of Culligan Water Conditioning' in this city, was elected secretarytreasurer of the Indiana Water conditioning association at the annual conference at Purdue University Thursday. Terry Fay lor, Fort Wayne, was elected president. They will take office June 1 for the ensuing year. Principal speaker at the conference was Dr. G. Herbert True, of Notre Dame University, who spoke on “Productive creativity in sales and merchandising.”

Sprunger On Plan Commission Robert F. Sprunger, head of the Wanatah branch of the First Merchants Bank of Michigan City, has been appointed a member of the LaPorte county plan commission. Sprunger is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sprunger of near Decatur. Season Closed On Minnows And Frogs The season is now closed in Indiana for seining minnows or taking frogs, area conservation officer Jack Hurst warned Thursday. ’ The season is closed on seining for minnows in Indiana from May 1 to June 13, and for taking frogs, from May 1 to June 10. License Os Local Driver Suspended The latest driver suspension list issued by the Bureau of motor vehicles lists a one-year suspension of the driver’s license of Michael D. Thoele, of 1227 Lewis Drive. The suspension, due to a points accumulation, runs from March 24 of this year to March 24, 1965.

Fort Wayne, is employed in the accounting department at Westinghouse Corp., Lima, Ohio. The wedding will take place August 22 in St. Mary’s Catholic church.
One Driver Charged Following Accident Wayne L. Toomure. 29-year-old resident of Berwyn, 111., was arreitbd and cited into justice of the peace court, folowing a two-car accident at 11:34 a.m. Friday at the intersection of 13th and Washington streets. Toomure was following an auto driven by Barbara Ann Fawcett, 21. of 418 Johns St., as both were northbound on 13th street. Toomure started to pass on the right, just as the Fawcett car began .to turn right onto Washington street, and the two collided. Damages were estimated at SIOO to the Toomure-auto and SSO to the Fawcett vehicle. Toomure was charged with failure to yield the right of way, and is slated to appear in justice of the peace court Tuesday. Man Arrested For Public Intoxication Clyde B. Money, 42, of Portland, was taken into custody this morning and held in the Adams county jail on a public intoxication charge. Money was arrested at about 9 o’clock this morhing at a service ' station in Berne by Berne police chief Don Grove and deputy sheriff Warren Kneuss. No date for a court appearance has been set as yet.

Michigan Man Fined For Intoxication Arnold Leßoy Minyard, 46, a resident of Detroit, Mich., paid a fine of $lO and costs on a charge of public intoxication this morning in justice of the peace court. The total fine amounted to $26, which was levied by J. P. Floyd Hunter. Minyard was arrested by the city police about 8 o’clock Friday evening on N. Second street. He was charged with public intoxicaiton and lodged in the county jail until his court appearance this morning. Veteran House Clerk Undergoes Treatment WASHINGTON (UPI) — Ralph R. Roberts, 63, longtime clerk of the House was listed in “satisfactory” condition today at Bethesda Naval Hospital where he is under treatment for a heart ailment. Yankees Reschedule White Sox Games NEW YORK (UPI) — The New York Yankees have rescheduled two rained out games with the Chicago White Sox as part of a twi - night double header June 12 and a day-night two bill August 12.
Pressure Allies To Halt Cuban Sales WASHINGTON (UPI) — The State Department is intensifying efforts to dissuade the United States' European Allies from selling critical goods to Cubat particularly locomotives which are badly needed in Cuba’s transportation industry. Persistent reports that* French businessmen might sell locomotives to Cuba prompted a State Department spokesman to say Friday that the United States was “opposed” to any such deal.
