from his mother’s arms. Concern over the baby’s health mounted with each passing hour. The child was born Sunday and kidnaped the next day from Chicago’s Michael Reese Hospital by a woman posing as a nurse. Paul Joseph was the first child of aircraft mechanic Chester Fronczak. 33, and his wife. Dora. 28 Police called off a house-to-house search through a South Side neighborhood at nightfall
and began en intensive check of all nurses and nurses aides in the city. A special contingent of investigators pored over the files at Michael Reese Hospital and others started a painstaking check of the records of the State Department of Registration and Education. They hoped to find some indication of a present or former hospital worker who matches the description of the kidnaper. Area churches were alerted

to the possibility that the kidnaper might try to abandon little Paul Joseph. A similar alert went out to 34 baby clinics in the city. Polices strengthened their guard at the hospital on the chance the woman wduld try to bring the baby back. The only solid clue to the kidnaper centered on a 96square block area of the city’s South Side, where a cab driver said he took a woman with a baby in her arms shortly after the abduction was discovered.

Barks Dirksen On Gag Vote
WASHINGTON (UPD — Senate Democratic leader Mike Mansfield today backed GOP Leader Everett M. Dirksen’s call 'for a gag rule vote if Southerners refuse, to act by next Tuesday on the civil rights bill’s jury trial amendment. “I’m ’ going along with Senator Dirksen, if such action proves necessary,” Mansfield told a reporter. “I hope we will know definitely today. It’s a matter of timing and votes.” There was a strong indication that senators of both parties felt it was time for the Senate to let the country know it was not impotent in the face of Southern delaying tactics. These senators believed that imposing cloture — limiting debate — on even one amendment to the House-passed bill would help to serve that purpose. Await South Agreement Both Mansfield and Dirksen obviously wanted to give Sen. Richard B. Russell, D-Ga., leader of the Southern opponents. a chance to come to an agreement on settling the jurytrial question. Dirksen and Mansfield jointly sponsored their proposal as a substitute for the Southerners’ more sweeping jury trial plan. The Dirksen-Mansfield amendment is the pending business. "was reported to be planning an early meeting of the Southern Senators to discuss strategy in the face of growing sentiment for cloture action. The Dirksen-Mansfield proposal would authorize a jury trial in criminal contempt cases arising out of the civil rights bill when the penalty exceeds 30 days or S3OO fine. The Southern proposal offered by Sen. Herman E. Talmadge. D-Ga., would guarantee a trial by jury in any criminal contempt case in any federal court. Have Alternate Plan But the Southerners have an alternative, introduced but not called up. which is close to terms of the Dirksen-Mansfield NIPSCO Pays Out $4.5 Million Tax A spring tax installment of almost $4y 2 million <54,477,768,801 in real estate and personal property taxes was paid this week by Northern Indiana Public Service company as its contribution toward more and better schools, parks, highways, fire and police protection and aid to the growth and development of the northern third of the state. substitute. Many of their colleagues do not think they would be hurting to see the leadership substitute adopted. The Senate is in its eighth week and 43rd day of debate on the bill to ban racial discrimination. invoting, education, employment, unions, public accommodations and use of federal funds. Dirksen said a cloture petition could be filed Monday and could be voted on two days later. * To - adopt cloture, two-thirds of those present and voting must approve. If all senators were on hand this would mean -67—votes to adopt the gag rule. Holland Princess Wed This Morning ROME (UPI >—Holland’s Princess Irene, so overcome with emotion that she wept and nearly fainted, was married today to Prince Carlos Hugo of Bourbon Parma in a Catholic ceremony boycotted by .her parents. The 24-year-old princess nearly fell as she entered the basilica of St. Mary Major to the cheers and applause of a crowd ofthousands. She was verypale and had to grasp the arm of the prince to keep from falling. The princess, who broke with her family, her Protestant religion, and her nation for the love of the 33-year-old prince, was so alone that there was no one to give her away at the ceremony. She walked down the aisle on Carlos’ arm. Calls Queen Juliana The rigid self-control of the princess drained away after a long telephone call early this morning to her mother, Queen Juliana, who stayed in Holland, The princess wore a white Paris w-edding gown and a $500,000 heirloom tiara but as ...she sat down before the altar to exchange vows with the prince, a claimant to the Spanish throne, she was weeping openly. With the crowd watching her. the wiped away her tears and the ceremony- proceeded, Paolo Cardinal Ciobbe, the 84-year-old former papal representative to The Netherlands, married the couple, who planned a brief audience With Pope Paul ( VI later in the day. Fails At Reconciliation The princess’ telephone call was believed to be a last-minute attempt to get Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard to give up their opposition to the match and come to the wedding. She failed. As another gesture of conciliation, she permitted television cameras to record the ceremony -o that z the Dutch people —including her parents and three Sisters—could watch. But it was not known whether her family had done so. When the princess' whispered “I will" .to the aged cardinal before the gold and silver altar of the basilica, she forfeited all rights to the Dutch throne, for which she had ’ been second in hue.
