Stress Johnson Relations To Bobby Baker INDIANAPOLIS (UPD—President Johnson’s past relations with Bobby Baker will be stressed as an Indiana campaign issue. Republican party chiefs said today. This subject was emphasized earlier in a banquet address of lowa Sen. Jack Miller at the Indiana Republican Editorial Association meeting in French Lick Saturday night. Baker resigned as Senate Democratic majority secretary. Miller quoted from a Senate speech Aug. 30, 1957, by Johnson, then Democratic floor leader. According to Miller, Johnson said: “The secretary to the majority is the most tireless and indefatigable man on this floor. Bobby Baker is a young man who already has gone much further in life than many others of far greater years. And, it is my personal opinion that he is just getting started. “His first thought is always of those of us he serves. And everyone knows that we can call upon him at any hour of the day or night, and he will not be found wanting. I consider him one of my most trusted, most loyal and most competent friends.” Campaign Funds Query Miller said evidence has been submitted to the Baker investigating committee that Baker handled campaign funds for some of the Democratic senators in their re-election campaigns. “Small wonder that there hasn’t been any rush to have the Department of Justice cite him for contempt of the com.mittee by taking the Fifth Amendment,” Miller commented.

Tornado-Like Winds Pounding At Southeast By United Press International Tornado-force winds pounded the Southeast today, injuring at least eight persons and causing heavy damage. Torrential rains, measured at almost a foot in Mississippi, lashed the Gulf Coast during weekend. Businesses, homes and highways were flooded. Powerful winds, which may have been a tornado, injured five persons at Moss Point in southeast Mississippi early today. Destructive winds injured three persons south of Mobile, Ala., and caused property damage near Abbeville, Ala., near the Georgia border. A tornado was reported at Whitfield in northwest Florida. Nearly 12 inches of rain fell at Gulfport, Miss., Sunday and today, and Mobile, Ala., was deluged with a 7-inch downpour. Five inches fell at Pensacola and Milton in Florida. Flooding was widespread in the Mobile area and hundreds of motorists were forced to abandon their cars on flooded highways. Thunderstorms swept up the Mississippi and Missouri River Valleys today and light showers feel through the Ohio Valley. Easy April rains drifted across the Upper Great Lakes area and Pacific Northwest. The weather bureau said the Dixie downpours were touched off by the collision of a low pressure center over Nebraska and a cold front snaking south to Louisiana. Six foot snowdrifts were reported high in Wyoming’s Shoshone Mountains Sunday and residents of Cody, Wyo., dug' out from under a 15-inch spring snowfall that caved in a barn and collapsed the roof of a store. The weather bureau said showers and thundershowers would continue during the day from the Mississippi river to the Appalachians. Snow flurries were forecast for mountain peaks in the Pacific Northwest.
Sentenced Youth Is Taken To Penal Farm Herman Lynn Dellinger, 20-year-old Decatur residefrt, was transported to the state penal farm at Putnamville this morning by deputy sheriff Harold August and special deputy William Hutker. Dellinger will serve a sixmonths sentence, handed down by Judge Myles F. Parrish last week, who revoked the suspension on the sentence Dellinger had received April 16. Raymond Filer Dies Sunday At Portland Raymond Filer, 72, retired Geneva businessman, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Jay county hospital at Portland. Surviving is his wife, Rachel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.ml Tuesday at the Hardy & Hardy funeral home, with burial in Riverside cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today. Herbert Boerger On - Root Advisory Board Herbert Boerger, Root township farmer living on route 3, has been appointed to the Root township advisory board by the two remaining members, Edward L. Selking, the township trustee, stated today. Boerger replaces Russel Fleming, who resigned as advisory board member to serve on the North Adams school board. Fleming. appointed by the Preble, Root, and Union trustees, is one of 11 men who has appealed the formation of the district to the Indiana supreme court. Appointing Boerger, who has two children in the Monmouth school, Selking said, were Everett Singleton and Fred W. Aumann. Selking said that Fleming resigned April 15 but that he was out of town, and therefore couldn’t report it before the school board appointment. Boerger was appointed at a meeting Friday evening. Another man’s name was proposed, but he didn’t own real estate, as required by the Indiana law, Selking said.
