The games put the senior and sophomore teams on the winning sides. The final game between the sophomore and senior team had a score of 2824. Everyone is proud of the mighty seniors and wish to cbngratulate them in their success in the championship game Friday night — D. C. H. S. — Friday, the freshman girls of Room I rejoiced at having a free period from 2 to 2:50 p.m. for going over the top of their goal in the bishop’s relief fund. This group just surpasses the sophomore girls of room 8, who are striving for precedence. The junior home rooms are also trying hard to break their goals in this.charity race. — D. C. H. S. — DECATUR HIGH By Marilyn Knudsen Well, apparently things have settled down at this school. In this time between sports, everyone breathes a little .more deeply, seems to be missing some activity, and delves a little harder into his studies. Soon the end-of-the-year activities, such as class parties, the prom commencement plans, and 1 such will swing into the scope of activity, but right now there seems to be an interim of peace. —— — D. H. S. — Since Uris year’s junior class has signed a contract with their ring company that enables the class to profit from ring sales, they will use this as their sole money-making project and there wil be no junior class play this year. — D. H. S. — Ten juniors and seniors and two faculty members, Mr. Kelly and Miss Turza, met in the first informal session on the Book club. Having read The Scarlet Letter, the group discussed the characters and their symbolism and author Hawthorne’s motivations. The next selection is to be Huxley’s Brave New World, and any junior or senior student or faculty member who wishes may join for a discussion of this philosophical novel. — D. H. S. — “Frontiers in Biology” was the topic of the assembly program seen by Decatur high last Thurs-

d ay. Featuring Mendel’s theory of genetics, a model of a living cell, and an explanation of the life-giving DNA molecule, the lectufe was an informative introduction to the more advanced stages of biological research and the fields still in the process of opening. Dan Murphy, who was in charge of the program, was ably assisted by one of the students from D. H. S., Betsy Schnepf, who demonstrated the part played by an astronaut. — D. H. S. — Seniors Ann Allwein, Polly Bonifas, Carolyn Cook, Debbie Crider, Nancy Gerber, Becky Rumple, Betsy Schnepf and Sally Schnepf, and juniors Barb Conrad, Marilyn Harman, Jane Jacobs, Karla Meyer Sharon Shannon, Kathy Thieme and Jane Tumlin. have been elected as captains for the girls’ intramural volleyball teams. Dan Hanna directed the band, while Walter Rodby directed the choir and arranged much of the music, ranging from the joyous “Hosanna in the Highest” to the light" “Nobody’s Business.” — D. H. S. — HOAGLAND HIGH By Phyllis Franke The whole school is beginning to prepare for the annual P. T. A. carnival to be held Friday, April 3. Let’s all work hard to make this the best carnival ever held. — H. H. S. — The members of the senior choir and the band members who belong to the Allen county band practiced all day Friday at Woodlan high school for the Allen county music festival to be held at 8 p.m. that day at Woodlan. The individual choirs of the county high schools will each present a musical program and at the end will all join together for several numbers. The Allen county high school band will also present several numbers. — H. H. S'. — The juniors have begun to prepare for next year by making out next year’s schedule. working hard to be ready for the state gymnastics meet. Good luck, team! - H. H. S. — The Juniors will take the national merit scholarship tests Tuesday. - H. H. S. — Sawing Tip The sawing of green or unseasoned lumber can be a backbreaking chore, because your saw is forever binding and sticking. One way to make the job much easier is to use the discarded end of a candle or a piece of beeswax or parafin, and rub this on both sides of the saw blade.

) 0 Modern Etiquette I By Roberta Lee 0 0 Q. We are buying a new home about 15 miles from the city where we now live. Would it be proper to send printed cards to our friends, announcing our new address and phone number? A. Yes, this is a perfectly proper idea — and a practical one, too. Some people use printed postcards for this purpose, listing all the essential information. Q. I’ve been told that it is impolite to comment on another person’s clothes. Does this mean that one should not admire or
compliment another person on his or her clothes? A. If you know another person well enough, there is no reason why you shouldn’t tell him how well he is looking. Q. In what way may a brideelect show her appreciation to a group of girl friends who have given a shower for her? A. She may give a luncheon, tea, or bridge party for them. Q. Please tell me, does my acceptance of a college man’s fraternity pin mean I am engaged to him? A. Not necessarily. Your wearing of the pin means exactly what you and the man decide it means.
