Cycle Os Straight Hair Now Ending By GAY PAULEY UPI Women’s Editor NEW YORK (UPI) — The cycle of straight hair is ending and in come the curls, predicts one man whose job is to keep tabs on feminine hair styles. Arthur Caplin foresees curls coming back for three reasons. The women are ready for them. The clothes call for them. And the men like the feminine allure of them. Caplin, marketing director for a hair products firm, indicated that women were weary of the straight hair cycle which has been in for the last three to five years. The cycle produced the puffy beehives and bouffants, then calmed down to a less exaggerated but still straight look. “Curliness is so essentially femininf, softening and becoming,” he said in an interview. ’’Clothes are in a softmood, so hair tends to follow.” Caplin said in his opinion “women dress to please women, but dress their hair to please men. Hair psychologically always has had more sexuality than clothes.” Want Some Bulk Caplin foresaw a combination of curl with some fullness because women — although discarding the bouffants — want to keep some bulk because they’ve found it’s flattering. Curls will come in two ways: There’ll be soft ringlets for day; for dress occasions, there will be more elaborate curliness with the hair brought up off the neck and “interlocking, interwoven.” Hair will be a bit longer, he added, to mid-center of the neck, because “with curl you need a little more hair. Three inches with curl are about the same as two inches straight.’
