Yogi Berra In Warning He Is Boss Os Yanks By United Press International Yogi Berra, new manager of the New York Yankees, called his players together at Fort Lauderdale Wednesday and warned them, “I’m the boss.” “I know that some of you may have heard stories over the winter that Ralph Houk was really going to do the managing for me,” said Berra. “Well, let’s get it straight. I’m the manager. “f expect you to act like Yankees, to dress well and to behave when you are out. I don’t want anybody getting into trouble.” Following Berra’s lecture, utility infielder Phil Linz became the Yankees’ first training casualty when he was struck under the left eye by a ground ball. Dr. Sidney Gaynor, the team physician, suffered a ruptured muscle in his left calf as he rushed to Linz’s aid. . • Several other teams also reported casualties. Don Zimmer showed up at the Washington Senators’ camp with a fractured left wrist he said was sustained playing handball at his St. Petersburg home Monday. The veteran third baseman will be sidelined for at least a month. Others admitted to sick bay were Gary Peters of the Chicago White Sox (inflamed shoulder), Andre Rodgers of the Chicago Cubs (gashed left hand), and Don Mossl ~6t the Detroit Tigers (swollen elbow). Bob Anderson finally signed his contract with the Kan-

New Sectional Titlists Face Uphill Battles INDIANAPOLIS (U PI) — Twenty-six of the 64 survivors in Indiana's 54th annual high school basketball tourney have never reached the “Sweet Six* i teen,” but don’t look for too , many brand-new regional winners Saturday. The “second plateau” generally is the first big showdown in the four-week grind and although 13 first - time sectional champs were crowned last Saturday, most of them will be fighting uphill battles to stay alive. At Lafayette, for instance, three regional visitors have never made it to Round 3, but with host Lafayette an overwhelming favorite, there is no pressure on anybody—not even on the host club, with or without Denny Brady, its No. 1 shooter who was injured last Saturday. The hopefuls at Lafayette are Clinton Prairie, North White and Fowler, but it’s old stuff, to die fields at Elkhart and Kokomo. They’ve all been there before. Other “have nots” on the regional level include Holton and North Dearborn at Connersville, Rex Mundi and Boonville at Evansville, Adams Central and Ashley at Fort Wayne, Turkey Run and Williamsport at Greencastle, North Knox and Loogootee at Huntingburg, Howe and Danville at Indianapolis, Needmore and Silver Creek at Jeffersonville, Pioneer and . DeMotte at Logansport, Muncie South and Winchester at New Castle, Shakamak and Spencer at Terre Haute, Clarksburg at Columbus, Gary Tolles ton at East Chicago, and Swayzee at Marion. Muncie South should be one of the top contenders for firsttime regional honors. The Rebels meet host New Castle, which they beat on the Trojans’ floor by one point early in the season, in the second afternoon game. And watch for Garrett, which can field a front line averaging* just under 6 feet 8 inches thanks to the towering Jini ( Heitz and Chuck Bavis, both 6-10. * The Railroaders of veteran coach Ward Smith, with an 18-6 record, play another key afternoon game in the Fort Wayne regional, against host Fprt Wayne Central, which checks in with a 15-8 record and nobody taller than 6-4. But Central’s Tigers, coached for the last time by Herb Banet, played a considerably tougher season schedule, making any comparison difficult. Nobody has an impressive regional tourney string going. Muncie Central’s five - time state champs won their show the last 10 years, one short of the record of 11 held by Frankfort, but the Bearcats’ string has run out since they are benched for disciplinary - reasons. sas City Athletics, leaving the club with four holdouts —... Rocky Colavito, George Alusik, Wayne Causey and Moe Drabowsky. Listed among the other holdouts were Julian Javier of the Cardinals, Tony Gonzalez q of the Phillies, Joe Torre of the Braves, and Camilo Pascual of the Twins.
