RUTH NAOMI CIRCLE MEETS AT CHURCH The Ruth and Naomi circle of the Zion United Church of Christ met in the church parlors for its regular monthly meeting. The meet>ng was opened by singing. "In the Cross of Christ.” The leader, Mrs. William Klickman, read scripture from Psalms 30:1-8, and led in prayer. A reading, “The Golden Year,” was given by Mrs. Walter Cable. Mrs Klickman and Mrs. Ida Stepler sang a duet. Mrs. Klickman gave the lesson, “Christian Issues in Southern Asia.” The group sang

“Blest be the Tie.” The chairman, Mrs. Clara Meyers, conducted the business meeting. A silent auction was held. There were seventeen present. A new member. Mjs. Jeff Rauch, was welcomed into the circle. Thirty nine social and twenty eight sick callls were reported. Happy Birthday was sung for those having birthdays in February. The meeting closed with the members joining hands and repeating the Mizpah benediction. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Walter Cable, Mrs. Orville Slusher, and

Decatur Attorneys At State Meeting Several Decatur attorneys are in Indianapolis today attending the meeting of the state bar association Severin H. Schureer, county prosecutor, left Wednesday for the meeting and Lewis L. Smith and G. Remy BieS” were to leave today. The meeting is being held at the Claypool hotel, Wednesday through Saturday this week. The main topic of discussion at the state bar meeting will be the uniform commercial code, which becomes effective in Indiana July 1. The code affects nearly every instrument of commerce, or business transactions, which has been enacted in several other states. Other states are expected to follow suit, making the law uniform in most of the 50 states. Two Army Reservists Now On Active Duty Two Army reservists from the Decatur area began six months of active duty training February 24 at Fort Knox, Ky. They are: Stephen A. Pickford, 709 Dierkes street, Decatur and Don D. Busiek, rural route 3, Decatur. After their return, these reservists will resume military training with the 13th Artillery in Decatur .

Two Persons Hurl In Wreck Wednesday Two persons were injured in a one-car accident Wednesday evening on an icy stretch of U. S. 27. one mile and a half north of Berne at 8:45 p.m. Emma Girod, 47, rout? 2, Berne, suffered a laceration oye£ the left eye, scratches on the chin and a right wrist sprain, while her son, three-year-old Nathan, received, leg bruises. Her husband, John Girod, was not injured. The Girods were passengers in an automobile driven by Voande Mardin Nagel, 31, of Berne, which went out of control on the slippery highway while northbound. The vehicle crossed the road, left the highway and rolled over once, coming to rest on its wheels. The two injured persons were thrown from the car. Mrs. Nagel’s young child, also a passenger, was not injured, although all of the persons in the car were checked at the Adams county hospital. Deputy sheriff Warren Kneuss estimated $575 damage to the 1960 model car. Same Location At 6:10 p.m. at the same location on U. S. 27. a car driven bv Eldon Daniel Lehmann v 49. of route 1, Berne, also went out of control and left the road, while northbound. Lehmann’s vehicle left the road and received an estimated $350 damage, according to deputy Kneuss. Two autos were damaged at one minute after 12 noon Wednesday on U. S. 27, two miles north of Berne. Leonard Jacob Schwartz, 35, route 1, Berne, was operating a truck north and said he pullled his vehicle to the right when a car in front of him began to turn onto county road 17. A northbound car operated by Robert Dean Ferris, 35-year-old Richmond resident, was unable to stop and sideswiped the truck. Deputy sheriff Kneuss again investigated, estimating damages at $l5O to the car and SIOO to the truck. Births At the Adams county memorial hospital: James and DeAnna Erwin Patch of Geneva, became the parents of a 7 lb., 1 oz., baby girl at 2:02 am. today. A 7 lb., 8 oz., baby boy was born at 12:30 a m. today to Larry and Sandra Collins Miller of Willshire, Ohio. , This morning at 10:17, Donald and Esther Bailey, Giessler of route 1, Willshire, Ohio, became the parents of a 7 lb., 10 oz., baby girl. COURT NEWS Orders To Pay The case of the Van Huffel Tube Corp., vs. Power Pac Muffler Co., was submitted to the court for trial without jury. Judge Myles F. Parrish found the plaintiff is due SI ,500 from the defendant. Estate Cases In the David D. Mettler estate, a waiver of notice and assent by all hei s to a petition to sell real estate was filed. Proof of the sale was filed and the deed was ordered delivered upon payment of the purchase price in full. The inheritance tax apprai- “ ser’s report was filed in the Corwin E. Judge estate, finding a net value of $4,000 “outside of estate,” and tax due in the sum of S2O. It was ordered that Adams county be allowed $1.60, being eight per cent of the total tax due and payable. The inheritance tax appraiser's report was filed in the estate of Albert N. Sprunger, finding a net value of $309,281.34, and tax due in the sum of $4,658.46. The court ordered that Adams county be allowed $372.68 as eight per cent of the total tax due and payable. The final report was filed in the estate of Laura Wulliman, and the notice was ordered issued returnable March 3. A schedule to determine inheritance tax was submitted to the court without reference to the county assessor, and the court found the net value of the estate of Mary E. Glendening to be $6,310.30. Reports Items Are Stolen From Auto An employe of Bill Zoss Chevro-let-Buick, Inc., reported a theft to the city police department at 9 o’clock this morning. A gear shift knob and a tachometer were stolen from a 1962 model car owned by the company and parked at its lot on 13th street. The two items were valued at $32. Law Journal Banquel Scheduled March 14 BLOOMINGTON — Members cf the bar and bench from Adams county and elsewhere in Indiana have been invited to hear Marcel Mallet-Prevost, assistant general counsel for the national labor relations board, addrefis the 17th annual Indiana University Law Journal banquet here March 14. Special guests will be farmer members of the Law Journal editorial board. Mallet-Prevost. a graduate of George Washington University, is a member of the bar of the U. S. district court and the U. S. court of appeals, both for the District of Columbia, and the U. S. supreme court. He joined the national labor relations board in 1937, and has served at varying times as- a briefAugsburger Riles Are Held Today Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. today at the Hardy & Hardy funeral home, Geneva, for Eli Augsburger, 82, a native of Adams county. Mr. Augsburger died at 6 a. m. Tuesday in the Portland nursing home. A retired farmer, he was born the son of Christian and Elizabeth in Adams county Feb. 24, 1882, Augsburger and his wife, Emma, Baumgartner-Augusburger. Mr. who survives, were married 58 years. Surviving in addition to the wife are three daughters, Mrs. 'Elmer (Dorothy) Affolder, and Mrs. Forest (Marcella) Balsiger, Berne; Mrs. Hazen (Marilyn) Roth, Geneva; one son, Gorman, Geneva; four brothers, Joel, Geneva; Jeff, Linn Grove; Ed, Coldwater, Mich., and Chris, Berne. Burial was in the MRE cemetery, west of Berne. Locals Mr. and Mrs. Neil Sandler of Fort Wayne entertained at dinner lagt evening Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kalver and I. A. Kalver, in celebration of the latter’s 86th birthday. Palmer Uhrick of Bellmont Road received his diploma and reward from the General Electric apprentice school on Broadway in Fort Wayne last Friday as a machinist and tool maker. He is married to the former Bonnie Fulton and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Uhrick. He will remain with the Fort Wayne General Electric. __
